Yes, they were real. As I said, 184 built.
I’ve tried to discover, exactly, which torpedoes they could be armed with but the only references I have ever managed to find say “naval torpedo”.
Now, realistically, if you were to mount a Long Lance (at 9m long & 2,700kg each) on each side of a Ka-Mi, it would look more as if you’d equipped two of the world’s deadliest torpedoes with a small tank
I think it’s more likely that they carried the 21” Type-95s (only the second best torpedo in the world) as these would have been readily available (including required engineering support & Oxygen generator) on the submarines that carried the tanks.
But it’s nice to fantasise about this little tank using a pair of Type-93s as outboard motors (and getting up to maybe 20kts?!) before releasing them.
From the point of view of a machinegun nest, redoubt or bunker, being hit by a Type-93 (490kg warhead) or a Type-95 (405kg warhead) wouldn’t make a lot of difference. They would probably have stood a better chance of taking out the Panama canal gates than the aircraft carried by the I-400s too and, of course, if they’d been carried by I-400s, Long Lance Type-93s would have definately been available.
Further on the subject of non-standard units that are a MUST HAVE. There was a lot of debate about sea-planes and, another favourite of mine, flying boats. I would really be delighted if they were included.
we cant make equipment that is both a ship and a tank at the same time now sadly. but the above sounds so epic we'll see what we can do for future DLCs or whatever. you can mod submarine-carrier-battleships atm, but not landgoing ones
