Ok kids, here are the facts:

1) It's Sweden, not Sweeden.

2) Most Swedes (and Danes and Norwegians) are fluent in English.

3) It's Scandinavia, not Scandanavia.

4) It's Sweden, not Sweeden.

5) It is unlikely that the Scandinavian release will not support English.

6) It's Sweden, not Sweeden.

7) You will most likely have to order EU from some Scandinavian retailer, and you might have to phone them up to do so. And I can guarantee that their English is better than your Swedish.

Well, I guess that settles it. Sorry folks, it seems you will have to wait nicely for your local release. (Unless you learn a Scandinavian language. )

Personally, I am a little disappointed. I much prefer to play games and read manuals in English. Most recently I was exposed to the Diablo II and Icewind Dale manuals in Swedish, and they were outright embarassing.

I am sure it works better in EU though, since it is not a translation. Also, being a historical game, there is no need for any fantastic terms that sound like gibberish in Swedish.

Do you think so? Russians might say Sweden, but I think most Americans would say Norway.

Btw, have you seen that X-Files episode where Mulder and Scully solve a mystery on a ship off Norway? The local fishermen fear the area because think there is an evil god there.

As for the Vikings......for years there were several large 'clans' one in Sweden, one in Denmark and one in Norway.

Clans? Maybe you could call them tribes, although I would say they had already passed that stage and become regular nations, much as they remain today (albeit with different capitals). However, the awareness of nationality was weaker, and the spoken language was pretty much the same in all the Nordic countries. I think it is dangerous to use the word 'clans' in relation to the Vikings since their society was not particularily clannish, but rather quite cosmopolitan.

Quite the opposite. There were few official positions of power within the state and only an embryo of nobility (the jarls - great chieftains). Power stemmed mostly from riches, so the most successful traders and raiders usually became regional leaders.

Please take no offense, people...I like the European system, but it also has its drawbacks.

No offense, but this sentence is a typical demonstration of American ignorance. There is no 'European system'. I can assure you that the educational system in Sweden is as different from that of, say, the UK as it is from the one in the US.

People from the US often say that they've 'been to Europe' or 'want to visit Europe', but statements like those are essentially meaningless. It is exactly like saying that you've been to Asia, or commenting the African educational system. Almost any given nation of Europe is as different from any other as the US is from Brazil.

I am certain that this confusion stems from the fact that people in the US do not have a name for their own nationality, only which continent they come from. This sad fact even forces outsiders to generalize by calling people from the US 'Americans', when in fact Argentinians and Cubans are just as American.

If all of America had been integrated into the US (as perhaps Jefferson or Franklin once envisioned) I would not complain, but honestly, I think that the USA needs a proper name. 'Atlantis' has a nice ring to it...

And why did they choose a 'Swedish' bikini team for the commercial? Answer that question and you will know what Americans really think of Sweden.

(Surströmming is a kind of fermented fish that stinks to high heaven. I am told it is somewhat similar to the ancient Roman spice garum.)

Generalising about European schoolsystem is like generalising about the american schoolsystem(including cuba, us, argentina, etc..)

Generalising about the US schoolsystem is like generalising about the french schoolsystem, there is probably as much difference within each country as there is in a continent.

I am sure they do, and it is probably a mixed blessing. However, you can't seriously compare your 'states' with true nations; not as long as you have a federal government. Talk to me again when Texas is a fascist dictatorship, California is governed by social democrats and a king holds court in New Hampshire.

American (and yes I use that term ) schools are very fragmented and uncoordinated.

Fair enough, but there is no connection at all between for example Swedish and Greek education. (And we're just talking Western/Central Europe here; remember that Russia is also a European nation.)

If Europeans have trouble understanding how independent the U.S. states are, people from the U.S. definitely have trouble grasping the uniqueness of each European nation.

It is called snus and it is not chewed, but inserted under the upper lip where it slowly oozes nicotine and tobacco juices. Personally I think it is a filthy habit, but far less so than smoking, which pollutes the air. Smokers should be killed on sight.

Now, how do I turn this into an EU-related post?

Perhaps by expressing surprise that the U.S. game publishers appear so reluctant to bite on EU. However, what can you expect from toy companies like Mattel and Hasbeen? All their games must be playable from age five...

What do I know about Denmark? Heheh, as much as you can expect from someone living in the next door country. I.e. quite a lot.

We also have a lot of common history, both good and bad; mostly bad though.

Personally, I really like Denmark and have been there quite a few times, despite living 1500km away. This summer I spent a few days in Copenhagen and Tisvildeleje...
