What about non-merchant republics, like Swiss Confederacy? I know it is in the game, but will it have different mechanics or be the same as the merchant republics, with dominant families?

Yeah, pretty sure this is why everyone wanted republics so bad. But the new merchants will be really fun.
Is that confirmed? Because the LoR mechanics could be modded for other religions.Kind of sad, because they'll still be locked out for modders too.
I think there would certainly be room for less mercantile republics to use similar mechanics. Instead of funding elections with gold, let the candidates do it with prestige, and toss in some events that help courtiers in Republics earn prestige and a slew of minor titles they can hold (perhaps that are themselves earned by event, rather than always appointment). Bam, you've got some playability out of the rest of the minor republics in the game and the DLC covers a lot more ground.
You'll probably be able to add land-locked republics, but the mechanics are made for sea colonizing merchant republics. I'm pretty sure they said you can't add more than five houses, as well.Is that confirmed? Because the LoR mechanics could be modded for other religions.
Hmm, kind of agree. I feel like they haven't shown us everything in their hand just yet, but not adding all the republics they can seems like a 'it would be too much work' explanation.I doubt it, while it might offer some short term amusement, my expectations have dropped really low after the first dev. diary. Even Legacy of Rome had more to add into the game, because, despite the fact that it didn't unlock any new factions, it gave plenty of new stuff for large number of Byzantine dukes and counts. This DLC only adds 5 new factions which isn't enough to keep people interested more than one or two games. I had expected major DLC, but this is similar minor DLC like Sunset Invasion.
Also I find it odd that Visby is considered to be major enough to be included as independent merchant republic while more important Hanseatic cities are treated as single Hanseatic League -faction and Ragusa, Novgorod, Florence and Flemish cities are excluded completely. Visby certainly had important role in Scandinavian trade, but all of those cities which I mentioned had greater importance in European trade.
will it be modable? as I suspect that the first thing people will do is "fix" this mistake.

post 17 in the first dev diary, Doomdark says that it will be easy to mod.
Woot, finally, but i was just wondering what you mean by the "big five" paragraph? does it mean that only they will be playable? if so then im sort of bumbed out now, i guess ill have to give Amalfi, Ancona and Ragusa titular kingdoms...
Considering that you can create landlocked republics, I doubt they'll be unplayable just because they're landlocked. That would probably be more trouble coding than making mechanics for land-locked republics.
Unlikely. I doubt they could be made very interesting, tbh. Will landlocked and lesser republics ever be playable?![]()
