I'm not really the type of player that looks for historical realism to the degree that all my divisions have historical names. So, I was really happy when Paradox decided we could also turn off the historical names for divisions. However, it seems that the system for name-giving has been completely reworked, much to the disadvantage of the type of player I consider myself to be.
Take for example the paratrooper division template. For some immersion, I refuse to lead paratrooper battalions into battle as Germany with the "Paratrooper Division" name. So, I always change the name of the division template to "Luftwaffe-Regiment". This worked fine on the previous versions of the game, as I would roll out the 1. Luftwaffe-Regiment, then the 2. Luftwaffe-Regiment and so on. However, this changed with the recent patch. Now, when I rename the template, it doesn't change anything anymore. When I start training my "Luftwaffe-Regiment" templates, they are automatically assigned the generic "1. Airborne Division" name. And that's not even half as bad as it gets. They are also all awarded the same number. So when I try to train my "Motorisierte Infanterie-Division", they are all listed as 2. Motorised Division, and that for every single one of them. The previous system wasn't good, no, but this is just a big let down for a player who really doesn't want to be bothered by the historical division names, simply because the Germans didn't change their names in a logical order back in the days.
Perhaps this is food for thought, no?
