I always play with one hand on mouse one hand over the pause and keypad +-. Would be nice to be able to assign keys but I dont think it is too important.

If it's based off the same engine as EU3 it should have pause on the space bar. I still find it annoying that i have to reach over to the pause key rather than pressing the space bar especially after playing EU3.

I use a little utility called "Horragoth's HoI Hotkey" written by Hprragoth in 2003 ver. beta 1 for the original HoI that works for all versions of played so far. I use it everytime I play HoI. You can assign any key to:

1) Sprites
2) Counters
3) Pause

Very usefull. I could email if anyone is interested.

In HoI2 the with the buttons.txt you can map a lot of stuff.
Anyhow, in EU3 map modes are already mapped, as well as pretty much all interfaces (HRE, Ledger, Country panels,...).
Would be a major step back if it's not the case in HoI3.

Space = Pause in EU3? Why did I not know this :(

I think we added it in In Nomine expansion in single player if I can remember correctly (might have been in Napoleon). its not turned on in multiplayer for obvious reasons :S

You mean spacebar? The only way to talk in MP is to type messages, so unlessyouwanttoreadlikethis, you need to use another key or hit the date button to pause.

Well, thats because the interface to 'chat' isn't treated as a 'serparate' entity from the main program. So when you send an interupt from keyboard to the computer (hit a key), it decides whether to interpret it as a shortcut (like - is zoom out), which has priority, or pass it to the text chat box.

what a program should do (not that I'm good at making gui's, so don't ask me how, I just know conceptually), is that when the cursor is in chatting/naming, the keyboard interrupts are sent directly to the chat box and are not attempted to be 'used' by the program as an input

Like in HoI2 I want to name my div's with dashes sometimes, but it zoomes me out :D

i forget the real terms but its something like window priority i think. But I think thats the gist/rough explanation, i generally just deal with it

The space bar should be to click 'go there' for notifications that give the option (Eg Division upgrade, division ready to deploy, an army has arrived in this province etc)

If the space bar is pause, they're wont be a button for this, put there is a button specificially labbelled 'Pause/break' ... Whats everyones issue with it? :confused:

I hope the space bar remains the same use, or atleast have another button that functions exactly the same.

What I think would be best is if the shortcut buttons can be 'defined' by user, as they can in a lot of games

And in the case of the pop-up boxes I think most often the 'enter/return' key is the 'goto and close the pop-up' button and the 'esc' is the 'kill the pop-up and leave me alone' button :D
