How about you just stop the flames? What is it that you know about Scythians that the wiki doesn't? Links now. If it's an academic resource I can access it, so please, show me where your erudition stems from.

On the other hand, all of these migrations are very murky history. The only real migration within the game timeframe is that of the Celts into Galatia.

Other than that, Europe was relatively static, with "nomads" largely migrating between different areas of their own domains. I'd like the game to not have a "barbarian invasions" mechanism.

Well, the migration of the Cimbri and Teutones occured within the time-frame, and that was a fairly quick, violent migration.

Though you are correct, the age of the great migrations was to occur centuries later. To have huge mobile populations running all over Europe would affect immersiveness something awful.

I am not flaming I am stopping such ridiculous notion as Scythians running all over Asia within the span of 300 years as our friend here wrote.

As for links, unless you read Ukrainian.( the land were Scythians settled and dissolved) I will not be able to provide them to you. Oh and the copy of my Masters on that topic. Maybe I can provide my phone number while I am at it. Maybe ICQ will suffice, so its attached. maybe we can spend sleepless nights me trying to teach you about Scythians.

P.S. please note that I do not pretend to know the history of any other nations like some people here.

:) probably overeacted a bit, but marching hordes from RTW barbarian campaines give me the shivers.

Nothing agaisnt switching provinces culture and nationalty to reflect population and owndership of the same. but just marching 200k armie settling dfown for no reason is just stupid in my oppinion.

If that would be the case why not give player the ability to exterminate cities, and kill off whole areas populations to make space for Romans. Now THAT would be a reasonable idea.

Yeah, because there was no migration in 400/500s
How unrealistic it is for Visigoths to migrate to Spain!

I don't recall from where the Vandals came from, but where they reached is astonishing. I don't think human anatomics changed that much so that in 600 years, people couldn't go from Northern Europe to Tunisia. And since this game is random, I don't think it'd be very difficult to see Sakas migrate into...bleh, Greece. :p

btw, Vandals are thought (with lot of polemics inside) to have cross the Baltic from Scandinavia to actual Poland in 2nd century BC.

Meaning, if they could go from Poland? to Tunisia by land, then 600 years before, I suppose they could go from the Caspian Sea to Italy.

EDIT: The second "They" being the Scythians/Sakas/etc. migrating to India or to Italy, for example.

There are plenty of opportunities to model migration during this period. And not just the steppes- let's look at the Celtic tribes.

In 56 BCE, the Atrebates (who were allied with Rome) moved from Belgium to be closer to Roman power in northern Gaul.

In 60 BCE, maybe half of the Boii left Noricum to fight with Caesar and then settle in central Gaul.

In 58 BCE, and here's the crux of my argument to model this, Germanic tribes put so much pressure on the Helvetii that they left Switzerland for Gaul. Caesar caught them, slaughtered a fair number, and forced them to return.

I'm actually hoping for a retooled version of Victoria's pops system. You could grab a pop of legionary veterans and order them to settle in a frontier province. You could take a subject people and scatter them across your empire, as was done to the Celts, the Jews, and others.

We not talking Germany to Gaul, thats reasonable. We talking about propostrous version like RTW has, where tribes can migrate from Middle Asia to Spanish peninsula no problem.

But this happened in history
How do you think Celts ended in British Isles or Greeks in the Balkans?
