I'm new to playing, so the nuances here may escape me. I annexed a country and during it I think I captured or got a new character called noculture_femalename. Then a while later she married my Heir. Now if I go to the family tree window and click on the Heir, the game crashes to desktop. If I go to the characters screen and click "Women", it crashes. If I click "Unemployed" it crashes (since she isn't employed). I spent a bunch of time, and tried to find if it was another character crashing me out, but it seems to only be this one. The Heir shows up fine in the 'employed' screen, but again if I go to his details (family tree) it crashes.

I saw some posts here about bad stuff getting into the save file, so I poked around (in a backup file) and found this character. I tried setting her name to something else, but that didn't resolve it. I tweaked a few other things that probably didn't matter, like her culture. I can play the game fine, but I'm worried that when the heir becomes the king it might get worse.

Any tips?

That's excellent that there is a mod to fix this problem. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, my save files don't show up. (I have VV 2.1 installed too).

But I did find lower down in the 'character array' in the save file my nonamed lass had noculture (which should be obvious from her name! ; ). I fixed that up and my game isn't crashing anymore.

My next game I'll have to run under this mod tho! Thanks.

Probably you are running Vista, not as the administrator. User-written files like save games will have been redirected by Vista to a non-system directory, like c:\users\[name]\appdata\local\virtualstore\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Rome\save games.
