Got this game a week ago and I like it. Anyone who has the time thanks in advance for any answers.

1) I'm not 100% sure how to get a Duke to vassalize a Count.

Ex: I conquered some Muslem territory and installed 2 Counts. As I conquered more land, I made one guy into a Duke. Now the new Duke (I think Duke o' Marekesh), has 3 provinces but did not vassalize the other Count.

2) I was playig 1066 as England and I had some good female court members (my daugters). I didn't want to loose them as courtiers so I married them into my own Kingdom, rather then to other countries. Is this a good strategy?

3) Is this a bug? It seems many times after I name a Marshall he seems to inherit a Bishopric. I think it happened to me 3 time in a row, no more than 4 years apart...coincidence maybe?

1) I'm not sure about that one, I'll let someone else answer it...just got the game a few days ago :)

2) Excellent strategy...Those marriages will make possible new improved courtiers, future counts, dukes, bishops or simply ministers...

3) Are you the Papal Controller? If you are, all the newly appointed bishops come from your court....

But I suspect you are not using the beta, but the 1.04 patch

2 and 3 are answered by Alexandru perfectly well.

As to 1, a Duke automatically vassalizes any count who is coded as part of his duchy and in the same kingdom. If they are not naturally a part of the duchy, they won't vassalize them.

I may not be interpreting this correctly, but I think you mean that your duke has a duchy of 3 provinces. One of them is ruled by a count, another is his capital and the third merely a demense province.

If this is what you meant (and by all means correct me if I'm wrong), then your duke will usually install a vassal into that county when he has a few children.

A way around this is to marry one of your daughters to your marshal. The Pope never takes married men to be bishops.

There is a way to turn this to your advantage. If you're a king and the Papal Controller, follow these four simple steps...

Say your marshal Leopold has been dragged off to become the Bishop of Ulaid and is now a vassal of the Duke of Ulster. If Leopold has a brother Ruprecht who's still in your court, you can use Leopold's unexpected ordination to add faraway counties to your kingdom.

1. Grant Ruprecht a low-income county. Assume that Ruprecht is 14 years old (unmarried brothers with no children work best).
2. Elevate Ruprecht to any available Duke title.
3. Excommunicate anybody ahead of Leopold in Ruprecht's line of succession.
4. Assassinate Ruprecht. Leopold will now hold Ruprecht's count/duke titles, and will now be the count of his former bishopric. Ulaid is now yours!
