u lost to the ai though (or gave up in a hopeless situation). why not lower the difficulty on the 1949 save?
He lost to an "AI" that had been accidentally allowed to research three major land doctrine paths and an extra choice in one of them. That is after he artificially boosted them in other ways. The whole point of the thread is that he unintentionally created a monster that surpasses him in both quantity and quality and wanted to tell everyone about the experience.

What I've summarized here you would have known by reading the thread -- or even just the opening post.

Because it has nothing to do with the difficulty level, I don't think a minor +30% combat modifier is going to be that much help against the monster I created.

ill try it from 1949. of course ur far better than me. im just giving a sugestion though. dont skip a set when working out, lower the weight.

do u have any saves from the meta fighting (mid 1950)

#1. I don't remember saying I am better than anyone else; in fact once people look at my save games I may be declared a joke at the game. I understand what you are saying, I just don't think it will matter.

I never really got into any "mega fighting." I was having some real problems in the middle east pocket that was just ripe for picking, figured out what I did and realized I had no desire to fight that enemy through the shitty terrain of south Asia and quit. I have no idea if I could have pulled it off, I decided I didn't want to try. :)

He succeeded. In creating a much harder game to play!:cool:

I would be interested in learning how to make some of the changes that he did, as I would like to make some simple changes rather then give huge bonuses to the AI's so they put up a better fight. My computer runs very slow with all the units on the map from giving +40% to all the AI nations and his method holds great promise of getting a better fight (just not quite so much of a better fight, lol), without the massive slowdown in game speed I am seeing in my AAR game.

so you werent defeated? it just would take too long to win?

Kind of, I am not sure if I could win or not. I quit because I had no desire to try to beat that; I don't know if I could have or not but I have better things to do than slog through China for 17 years fighting a vastly superior enemy. If it had been in more forgiving terrain, the USA for example I probably would have played through.

Feel free to give it a shot and see what you think. :)

Somehow deleted most of the tech ids from the

deactivate = {...}

line of their save game file allowing them access to all but one of the Land Doctrines. It wouldn't be too hard to do that more selectively giving you a much harder but still fun enemy to fight; allowing them to research all of the Grand Battle Plan doctrines, but not Superior Firepower and Human Wave, for example.

Lol, I think that you just told me the answer I was looking for! So it isn't so much a matter of adding 'active' as deleting 'de-active' techs. Sweet!

I think sir, you have just invented an excellent way of making specific nations much tougher and without adding more units to the map. Perhaps we will be seeing 'Very emu/Furious' games played with sbr variation 'such and such' in the future! Thank you!

very emu is where u don't have any penalties but the ai has massive bonuses right?
Yes. And the 'sbr variant' could well become as well known a variation as that, with people listing what changes they have made to which countries, and attracting huge crowds to their AAR's eagerly following the course of the alternate history dictated by the changes he has taught us to make.

Only thing that would have been cooler is if sbr had withheld this startling discovery until he could make an AAR out of it, sorta a grand unveiling of the discovery combined with a demonstration of the effects of a planed use of the changes. Makes for a fascinating set of possibilities.

personally i like very emu since the penalties are very annoying. i like to give massive, massive IC, manpower, and resources, but keep them dumb.

Nope, I can't, at least without more modding.

As far as I can tell (at the level of the game engine -- exe) I don't think the AI is restricted at all in terms of what it can research in the engine. It can even research secret_weapons tech tree items.

Then excluding tech trees is set up in the tech "ignore" list in the AI text files.
