I just encountered a situation (bug), where my son after inheriting the throne has "no valid ambitions" to choose from, nor did he have any ambition active (some stats low, no son; so should be able).

I loaded a saved game and noted he had an ambition to 'become my marshal'. I granted his wish, and he picked a new ambition to improve his learning (sorely needed). This ambition stayed active after inheritance and is also listed and available for canceling.

So it would seem that 'become marshal' is invalid on inheritance and this situation is not properly handled.

PS. Forums are a poor substitute for issue trackers.
