Devs, I know that you need to streamline some things for Cities Skylines.

But I beg you not to deconstruct your fantastic road tools. Your road options in Cities in Motion 2 was nothing short of brilliant. No other game on the market has been able to give as many ways to road build.

I get that Cities Skylines is not a transportation sim, but when it comes to city building, we really need all the options to move our citizens around and also maximizing buildable land. Underground roads allow us make our cities flow better.

Please reconsider taking out underground roads. If you are absolutely dead set against implementing underground roads, then make the option open for modders. I guarantee that underground roads would be one of the first post-release game mods completed by the community.

Underground roads are a must for so many reasons. The road tools in CIM were great, don't ruin them! So many cities have major and minor tunnels, not everything has to be crossed with a bridge!

Simcity 4 was able to build tunnels, this was realeased 11 years ago. And you tell us that it's not possible with a next gen city builder to build tunnels ?
That's apples to oranges. Simcity 4 tunnels act as teleporters--when the traffic simulator draws a path, you skip from one end of the tunnel to another. Skylines probably couldn't render that visually in a sensible way, and the agent-based simulation may have trouble dealing with it, too. You'd need a different approach to tunnels.

CiM2's underground road is possible the coolest in the genre. Love the lighting effect. Definitely a plus for C:SL.

Hi Kimberly. Unfortunately, you are revealing that you do not know much about Cities in Motion 2. Underground roads is done very well and all we are asking is for that to be duplicated in Cities: Skylines. I'd suggest you read the forums a little more closely before lessons in apples and oranges.

I don't pretend to know much about Cities in Motion 2; I was simply responding to the comment about Simcity 4.

No underground roads? This frankly doesn't make any sense, seeing as CIM2 had a perfectly well-functioning system for such. This can only be a very unfortunate and misguided decision. I certainly hope it is reversed.

I could be wrong, but since CiM2 style underground tunnels are Actual, and so require "real" lighting, which means a lot of very expensive (resource-intensive) light cones. Could be the same reason for lack of night option for C:SL. If that's a problem, a temp workaround is hard-coding tunnels as shadow-casting but non-shadow-receiving objects. Just a guess anyway.

As there is no real underground mode in CIM2 (it just disables all houses and terrain) and people are complaining. (roads are still there and makes building metros a bit harder)
CSL simple won't allow you to build underground roads. Problem solved. Case closed :ninja:

This is no solution to a problem, this is only a circumvention. As long as I hear anything about that from people who really know what they are talking about, this case is far from being closed.
