Hi,

Thanks to the portings done by Virtual programming (http://www.vpltd.com/) people who uses mac can enjoy the best of the Paradox strategy games; EU2, HOI & II, CK and of course Vicky which in my opinion is the best of those games.

Several of us mac users have been yearning for a no time limit mod for Vicky. The 1.04 patch for Vicky has just been ported by Virtual programming. Hopefully we mac users will get Ricky as well in due time. Seeing that there are no time limit mods available for download for Vicky PC version I would like to as if it is possible to somehow use those patches for the mac version of Vicky? If that is not possible what kind of work would be needed to compile a UTP(unlimited time patch) for the mac version of Vicky?

First someone needs to find the addresses that need to be patched in the Mac executable. Searching for the hexadecimal equivalents to the start and end dates plus some experimentation should work. AFAIK, no one has created NTL patches for the Mac versions of any Paradox games. Apparently none of the Mac users are that interested in hacking/modding.

Thanks for the information. I am afraid that you have a point in saying that the Mac gaming community is less interested in hacking and modding. On the other hand the Mac gaming community (and market) is much much smaller than the PC one. On the bright side though is that the VIP mod has been compiled in a Mac version. If VIP could be brought to the Mac an UTP for Mac should be possible too. I will try to find out who compiled VIP for Mac.

Compiling VIP for Mac would mostly just be a matter of releasing the files as a .zip (or .sit or .rar or whatever) instead of a Windows installer. Modifying the binary is a very different matter.

True. I see that the VIP mod doesn't touch the exe which a UTP must do. Hmm :(

I've tried editing the hexidecimal equivalents on the mac executable, but for the life of me, I couldn't get the program to run afterwards. However, I'll admit I don't really know what I am doing, so there could be many things that I was doing wrong.

Unfortunately just searching for the dates might not be good enough since those bytes might appear in other places (so you have to keep searching after you find the first occurance) or, worse, they might be stored in some other form.
