Or just don't care so much about achievements. Why should game mechanics be mauled to such an extent just to accommodate your preferences on getting some pixels and a number on the steam app?

well, judging from the response, i'd say im alone in this, which is fair enough, i just feel allowing the steam achievements to be earnt via mp also could be enoyable, but no worries then, i had to try..

speaking of pixels and numbers for steam, don't forget to pick up the secret red herring steam badge for these winter sales, free 100xp if it matters? :p

It would be fun indeed, but it should be more Multiplayer focused Achievments. Like in HOI 4 you could have play as Italy and Germany and win the war against the Allies and Soviet.
Play as UK and France and don't lose Paris.
Compared to EU4 and CK2, this game allows more and easier kind of Achievments for multiplayer with requirements such as hard mode and other requirements.

I would like to add that I find achievements amazing. I have over 800 hours in eu4, many people have more, but I would not have enjoyed or played the game as much with out achievements pushing me to try the difficult or even seemingly impossible. With out those I would have maybe 200 or less hours.

Most EUIV achievements are mostly semi world conquest with X nations, yeah they are pretty tedious.

Hopefully we can get something more interesting but I doubt it

I think you dont really know what achievments are supposed to be, since most games these days are made for casual gamers. Achievements should be something you have to earn, not something that you casually get without even trying. I am not saying that all of them should be insanely hard of course, dont get me wrong, but why shouldnt there be atleast some of them which are really hard to get? .

Origin achievements: "Start the Game"; "Win the tutorial", "Complete the story parts 1-5". Wow. so difficulty, many fun, such achievement...
I always hope the guy who came up with such lame achievements gets a daily shat on the head by a bird for the rest of his miserable life -.-

If you don't like the achievements, then just don't attempt them. Achievements aren't the point of playing. They're basically just suggestions for you to try. It's perfectly possible to enjoy a game just by playing it normally while doing whatever you want.

(Unless you OCD about completionism, in which case I feel your pain, but I don't think it's really reasonable to expect Paradox to cater to completionists who don't like difficult achivements).

If you got OCD, the better idea would be psychological treatment anyway instead of building your life around this disorder (no offense meant!).

look i said my bit, all i was asking that achievements be made unlockable through mp so that they are less tedious if they can be achieved while playing alongside friends instead of grinding away on your jack jones , i've given examples of how this can be done, people don't agree, thats ok. The little digs to my gaming prowness are warrented, i understood that asking that achievement be made less tedious would be interperated has asking to be spoon fed an easy win, that is not what im asking for, i just felt they could be better enjoyed achieved while playing alongside other players in the game, while sharing your the experience of the game.

I wouldn't be against MP only achievements but there should be no cross over with SP as they would no longer be obtained on a level playing field.

I did not want to attack you! If you felt so, I'm sorry.
I understand what you said and it's a fair request, but I think the majority in this thread is right in the opinion, that an achievement would loose much of its "value" when it becomes less tedious/hard to achieve. A good compromise could be (like already suggested by someone) to introduce fun and challenging MP-achievements that we could accomplish with our friends. Like "win the war as Germany/UK/USSR in a MP match" or "win a game when you play UK and your friend plays France" ect.

Hey everyone. OK so I understand where the OP is coming from when he says
many exclusive achievements per faction

I think the idea here is that no matter what faction you want to play there will be a cool, difficult achievement to go for with that faction. I get that it's frustrating to somebody who is out to get as many achieves as they can because they just love achievements. Personally, I like that there is an achievement out there to give me an idea what to shoot for when I play that country.

I also am intrigued by the idea of multiplayer achievements, but there's always going to be players who just cheese them with collusion and that is probably why Paradox does not do this. Multiplayer would I think cheapen the achievements because it would take little skill to get them with other players helping.

My only gripe is devs who give their games truly uninspired and patronising achievements like "durr hurr good job you start game lol". Anno 1404 had some ingenious achievements, and in general did a fantastic job at mixing "challenge achievements" and various jokes and whatnot.

I don't mind quirky/difficult acheivements myself, then again, I couldn't really care less about the achievement system in the first place.

I agree with OP, I like to do achievements, but in some cases its just tedious. Paradox games suffer from this I think a lot, with so many achievements requiring you to dominate the game, spending tens of hours before you can even attempt to get it... and each one with slightly different country and slightly different goals. It gives a bit of flavour, but gets really repetitive and tedious after a while, requiring tens of playthroughs each lasting tens of hours, almost all of them pretty much requiring you to dominate the game before you can get the requirements. I love to do all achievements in games I like, but stop when it becomes too tedious and time consuming... and not fun anymore. EU4 achievements currently feel like 100 hours of same old slightly differently just to get ... one obscure pun?

So, from me - please, more != better, especially tying almost every achievement to a different country that I need to play tens of hours just to maneuver myself to a position with reasonable shot at getting that one achievement pretty much ruins them for me, when in fact I would really like to care about them because I care about the game.

So, what exactly would I like?
More of:
Bomber Harris - destroy xy buildings with strategic bombing

Less of:
London blitz
Dresden firebombing
Doolittle raid
and 10 other increasingly more obscure strategic bombing achievements, each requiring you to do it with different country and with slightly different requirements...

This. I've never even looked at the achievements for Paradox games, but wouldn't want to take anything away from those who enjoy them.

Achievements are suggestions, as stated multiple times beforehand. If you don't want to try them out, just don't do it. I barely have 50 achievements on EUIV despite having 350+ hours, and for CKII I again only have 53 despite having 500+ hours. I play the games to enjoy them, not to be a completionist. I enjoy challenges, and if I would play in ironman mode almost every time I would have so many achievements unlocked, but I simply didn't want to as my main objective in those games is to enjoy myself or to form Prussia and Germany by 1664 (did that twice: once with a colonial empire, once without) or even make Luxembourg into the World Superpower while the Rosetta mod turns all the provinces into Luxembourgish names.
Baseline is: good luck, have fun, and enjoy the game.

I don't want any achievements for HoI4.... none, whatsoever...

this is a strategy game, not some arcade game for 10 year olds

btw, I just did unlock one for a deity level win on Civ 5, and yeah, that was cool, but all the other mundane achievements they have are just fluff and not necessary....I'd much rather there be zero then too many that meant too little...

The only achievements I hate are the ridiculously easy achievements which defy the definition of achievement.

Achievement unlocked! Start the game.

Achievement unlocked! Form an alliance.

Achievement unlocked! Declare war.

Achievements are supposed to be challenging and, hence when you complete them an achievement.

Well, achievements serve 2 purposes - to show player advanced in the game (good for developers to know how their players play the game & interesting statistics for the rest, these are the things like started the game, killed the first boss, did a royal marriage, finished the XY level/scenario, finished the game... Did you know only 15% of players finished HL2? And only 44% finished the first level?) and to brag that you did something interesting/hard (Sultan of RUM, Three Mountains...).
