No tedious Steam Achievement's for HOI IV Please

Hello Paradox

Can you please bring down the difficulty or amount of steam achievements that can be obtained in HOI4 and paradox games in general. I enjoy the occasional difficult steam achievement, but generally most are tedious and when attempted are often thwarted by updates or expanions, which can be annoying.

I understand steam achievements & the percentage figure in your profile is just a meaningless number with no actual value then bragging rights, and the enjoyment should come from playing the game naturally, but i do personally like to hunt achievements, but i feel there are to many exclusive achievements per faction, that require a considerable amount of time to play, while some factions i personnally don't have any interest in, i really don't want to see steam achievements like "Conquer the world has Brazil before 1948 "

Also it would be really neat if you could make achievements obtainable through multiplayer, the most fun i have from paradox games is from the mp, but i feel urged to spend time in singleplayer mode grinding out achievements, while i'd rather be playing with someone, why can't we do both? and earn achievement while in a MP game, even if some of the achievements can be gamed, it shouldn't matter to much since for most it will be considered a null figure anyway, but i believe even for those hunting achievements, being able to play either co-op or PvP with other players to earn or personally thrwart achievements would be alot more fun, then dismal tedious singleplayer achievements that want you to beat it before the next update/expansion corrupts it.

Tbh i find myself looking at steam achievements of a game before buying it, it can pretty much tell you what your be doing for the course of a game before purchasing it, i often weigh in my free time & how long i believe i'll play it before i shelf it, how much i want the game, i then look for achievement guides and see if a 100% complete is near doable, and then buy it. If the steam achievement are stupidly dull & tedious, i will just skip it, since most games are a flavour of the week with a billion achievements. The only exception i have made to this rule is good must have game that i'm willing to take the hit to the achievement percentage like paradox games, but i'd wish they wouldn't over do it with the amount of tedious steam achievements that can only be obtained in singleplayer.

I love hard achivements. They give me a sense of accomplishment if I manage to do them.
If you don't like them, then don't do them. It's not the end of the world.

EDIT: Also enabling them in MP would give us a chance to use exploits to get some of the harder ones.

I love hard achivements. They give me a sense of accoplishment if I manage to do them.
If you don't like them, then don't do them. It's not the end of the world.

Not to mention the lets-players out there who are able to pull some stuff off that I never thought possible. Please keep trolling us with near impossible achievements, if for no other reason than so I can watch all the LPs of attempts to defeat Italy as Albania and take Rome in the peace.

I totally understand were your coming from Zaku, but how am i to say, complete crusader kings 2 or EU4 achievements were your asked to survive to said end date before they update the game? why can't we have these achievements obtainable via MP, and some of the achievements are stupidly tedious or with factions i have no interest in playing, which i can accept to some extent, and would probably be more inclined to try annoying factions for steam achievements in MP then in singleplayer.

You don't have to complete every achivement.

As I said before if you play in MP you should be not able to get achivements, because they become a hundred times easier if you have a few helping players.

There are no achivements on steam that are unobtainable.

If it causes players to work together to gain achievements, what wrong with that? yes some of the achievements can be gamed, i don't see the huge problem.

Also there are unobtainable achievements on steam, i forgot the title of the game, but the developer included an achievement for an alternative ending that wasn't possible. Also plently of broken achievements, and i'm sure other developers have probably made broken achievements.

Also look, the time in between them releasing expansions doesn't leave much time to gain said achievement if they are corrupting the game save file, i may have a singleplayer & mp game on the go, with only said time to play either before the looming updates or expansions that break your save file. But if i could do it all in MP, i could hit two birds with one stone, i'm not sure why this has to remain an exclusive sp steam achievement game, especially given HOI is BEST enjoyed in MP.

Hard achivements like "Basileus" or "The three mountains" would be a hundred times easier. Enabling them in MP would take out all value from the achivement.

Think about "luck of the Irish" as an other example. One player is playing as an irish minor, the other as England. Then the english player just gives away all his territory to the irish for free, after that he just needs to gobble up the rest of the islands. Bam, achivement completed without lifting a finger.

The achievements are purely optional and I like them as I would have never played as an Aztec or Incan religion nation otherwise. I really didn't use the custom nation designer at all till they added achievements as I felt a custom nation was usually too easy.

Woh what's with the disagrees? This guy makes a good point. He doesn't want ridiculous achievement. Hard achievements are fine, he's not complaining about them. He's complaining about obscene ones like "world conquest as Brazil." That's not a hard achievement, that's ridiculous.

Why would conquering the world with Brazil be more ridiculous then conquering the world with Ryukyu? Or to own all timber producing provinces with Norway?
I love those kinds of achivements.

I think you dont really know what achievments are supposed to be, since most games these days are made for casual gamers. Achievements should be something you have to earn, not something that you casually get without even trying. I am not saying that all of them should be insanely hard of course, dont get me wrong, but why shouldnt there be atleast some of them which are really hard to get? Are you really satisfied when you reach 100% achievements in an game without putting that much effort into it?

Of course you will run into achievements in an game where you can play every nation on the planet, that require you to play nations you might not be interested in. They cant be just centered around the 7 major nations and leave out everything else. I am sure that stuff like conquering europe with Luxemburg, which was only doable in HoI III by exploits anyway, isnt possible in HoI IV anymore due to the new peace deal system, but i am sure there are achievements for something like unifing china or south america for example.

If you don't like the achievements, then just don't attempt them. Achievements aren't the point of playing. They're basically just suggestions for you to try. It's perfectly possible to enjoy a game just by playing it normally while doing whatever you want.

(Unless you OCD about completionism, in which case I feel your pain, but I don't think it's really reasonable to expect Paradox to cater to completionists who don't like difficult achivements).

So you would prefer earning easy achievements than trying and win some of the hard ones? And wheres the fun in that exactly? You wouldn't have achieved much if Paradox only had (all of the) achievements like: As Germany annex Poland or annex Czechoslovakia. As USSR conquer Bessarabia or as Japan conquer Papua New Guinea. There isn't much fun or even satisfaction from completing easy-medium achievements.

Also there are unobtainable achievements on steam, i forgot the title of the game, but the developer included an achievement for an alternative ending that wasn't possible. Also plently of broken achievements, and i'm sure other developers have probably made broken achievements.

Care to name the achivements that are unobtainable/broken for paradox games?
If you found one then it is a bug and you should report it in tech support. Steam always acknowledged when I did an achivement so far.

i don't mind achievements like that, they include all the major nations taking part, although i will never play stinking ussr in singleplayer, i'd be inclined to play it in mp for the sake of keeping the sides fair, would be nice to get a steam achievement there also though and not have to make another playthrough with singleplayer just to nip one achievement.

I'd rather there be fewer and harder achievements then just a bunch of tedious achievements that can only be obtained through sp, i understand the issue of being able to exploit achievements thru mp, but i'd rather play alongside someone for a change working toward achievements perhaps better catered for mp that can't be gamed, so i don't have to sit there grinding out singleplayer for the achievement.

In the example given by Zaku on "luck of the irish" the steam achievement could be set to unobtainable if another human player controls either scotland/england. I'd say although still a cakewalk if a human player was controlling france, the game would have to still be played properly and cooperatively to gain this achievement. Although the achievement could be easier to gain then in singleplayer, AI difficulty could be increased in a co op mode.

Perhaps hybrid achievements like if if two players play both USA & UK, if they complete "operation unthinkable" before 1948 "achievement unthinkable unlocked" if in singleplayer you play either UK or USA and storm into russia, again "achievement unthinkable unlocked" both parties are winners, to make it slighty harder for those attempting the achievement thru co op, the ai would adjust it diplomacy to suit, the game would recognise that two players are playing has allies and are about to gank the world, and so the other two factions would look far more advertising for other countries to join, so instead brazil/mexico/norway/sweden may take a threaten attitude making them less inclined to join the allies and instead the axis, perhaps later with a fully formed commie china joining the ussr alot easier in a co op game and less likely to happen in a sp game. But still the same achievement, just different set goals then for if being attempted in mp then in sp.

the seven centuries achievement in ck2 isn't hard, its just a pain in the arse to get since everytime they patch the game or release a new expansion it breaks my save file. I didn't say if any paradox game achievements were broken, i thought you meant in regards to across steam.

Then what happens if the other player plays with France and feeds Ireland with juicy English lands? That still takes away all the skill required to unify Britain as an irish minor. This means it is no longer an achievement, because the word means:

increase the likelyhood of all surrounding ai factions forming a coalition in mp mode, that should check france.

The AI already has a greater agressive expansion impact VS players then they have VS AI nations.
My point is: no matter the penalties more then one player will always have a way to exploit the AI and get hard achivements more easily if they work together.

i'm just suggesting alternatives to making getting these achievements fun, for me i guess. I understand two heads are better then one, but a game like hoi is pretty much scripted events anyway, if you play GB, USA will join the allies regardless, the army control in hoi seem to have a focus on leaving it in the hands of the ai anyway, which i suppose is to make it more mp friendly, so why can't a human player control USA & GB work together towards a steam achievement? If your worried about USA joining the allies before 1939, it was quite possibile to do that in hoi3 singlleplayer.

Plus with most paradox rts games, if you increase the difficulty, it increases the penalties, thats pretty much it, i've played many mp games with ck2, eu4, viccy 2, and seen it happen all the time, players begging for intervention because the ai is serving them up, which is always amusing, sometimes you help since they threaten rage quit, but despite your best effort the ai gimps ya sometimes, but then i suppose it depends on whom you play, i just say that more criterias could be added to hybrid steam achievements that could be more difficult to get in mp.

Aren't all Steam Achievements tedious by definition? ;)

yeah.....pretty much, it drives me nuts.

increase the likelyhood of all surrounding ai factions forming a coalition in mp mode, that should check france.
Or just don't care so much about achievements. Why should game mechanics be mauled to such an extent just to accommodate your preferences on getting some pixels and a number on the steam app?
