No surprise, but nice confirmation about not being online only.

While Paradox Veteran players won't be surprised, it may warrant mentioning for new customers Friends that once you download Stellaris from Steam, you will not need to be connected to the internet to enjoy the single player aspects of the game.

Why would you even need to mention this?
As I mentioned, it isn't a surprise to people who have played the Paradox games for some time. But it is a question I've heard more than once from friends who this will be their first Paradox purchase. Lots of companies engage in a crappy 'Need to be online' component even for games that don't need it. It's a legit concern among some regions with limited internet.

This is my first paradox game and I was wondering about this. Good news indeed. I do a majority of my gaming on a laptop and only connect to the internet on it for updates.

What other company than EA has done that?

I think that, combining with turning off auto-update, can assure players a way to keep compatability in case updates break existing save files. Granted, it is not very common, but Paradox being Paradox, these things can happen somewhat often, especially when mods are involved.

It's a legit concern among some regions with limited internet.
I thought we established that every single Paradox player is an affluent first world computer programmer.
There is no-one who lives in the barrio for whom this would be a concern.
I mean come on, it's 2016!

You can select an older version to playing trough steam though.

Only when the update is deemed major enough to quite certainly break all earlier saves, though, such as several large updates in CK2. Smaller incidents often do not result in Paradox allowing steam to run the previous updates. The issue becomes much more complicated when mods are involved. As such, players who are concerned about these factors might want to take note of this solution should such a conflict occurs.

If I recall, too, Paradox's games don't use Steam as a DRM system, either. If you really hate Steam enough, not only do you never have to go online, but you can copy the game directory out elsewhere and uninstall Steam. Just, you know... have fun with patches, mods, and expansions. As ya do.

I've never tried that before. Good tip.
