You were right :rofl: It seems there was a conflit between HOI2 and the Creative program named "Volume Panel" (VolPanel.exe) launched at Windows startup.
Now that I have the solution, it seems trivial but I took a long time to get it.
So, hope it'll help some others Creative X-Fi owners, and thank you very much for your help and patience (expecially jpd ... )

Glad we finally found the cause.

Although I am a bit surprised that there was a sneaky Creative applet running (launched at startup) when you do a driver-only installation.

You're right. Reading closer your latest messages, I realize that I didn't follow step by step your procedure , meaning I didn't uninstall "all" the Creative stuff but only the drivers .... It should have worked if I had done that.
