Such an attitude would turn CK into the Sims; selling the same DLCs over and over again for each generation ...

That.... is exactly the point.

Get ready to buy Sons of Abraham 2.0
Get your wallet out for Sword of Islam 2.0

It's just a DLC mill.
The base game will be... probably... something like how Imperator Rome was at launch. A skeleton of a game, barely any meat on it that you will have to feed with precious hard earned euros/dollars... glueing DLC after DLC on its white bones until it looks like Frankensteins' monster.

The irony being that they haven't even dared releasing DLC for iRome yet because of all the negative feedback for it.

As far as I can tell that's basically a "content pack" i.e. graphics and vanity stuff, not gameplay related, but I see your point. lol this is going to go down like a lead balloon

CK2 nomads are honestly just really shoddy. The entire clan if not entire realm would follow the khan's culture and religion, which is not how nomadic societies functioned at all. They were by definition confederacies of many different tribes of differing ethnicities, using many languages and with practitioners of various religions. The Mongol Empire, for example, in fact consisted of far more than just the titular Mongols: Uyghurs, Khitans, Turks, Han Chinese... And of course Mongol rulers are famous for their religious tolerance.

While I'd prefer they rework the whole thing, I'm fine if they just leave them as normal tribals if it's impossible to do in a dynasty-based game.

Hmm, it is a pity about merchant Republics. I think about half of the full games I have played though in Crusader Kings 2 from the earliest time to the end has been as patricians. I hope Merchant republics come back sometime.

Keep in mind that even though they aren't in now, that doesn't mean they are to be paid content later. Paradox might give us mediocre republics/nomads in a later patch you need a DLC for to be great.

Nomads are super broken (not just overpowered, also generally just incompatible with CK2), so I'm glad they will be redone in a future DLC. Merchant Republics are ok, but they were made pretty early on and do not mesh well with mechanics added later, which became incredibly evident with Holy Fury and their interactions with enatic religions, and I would love to see their mechanics overall expanded upon anyway.

For sure there's much room for improvement over ck2's implementation of them, but I would have preferred to have seen them on release, even relatively barebones, instead of be made to pay for dlc to unlock them all over again

Agree to disagree, I guess. I would definitely prefer they spent resources in other places until they are ready to commit to making governments like Nomadic and Merchant Republic actually work. It certainly breaks my immersion to have the Khans ruling over sedentary tribes in the East, but it is not worth spending less time in other areas for a barebones placeholder.

I am fine if republics and nomads are added later in a DLC or such (CK series was always about "feudalism first"), but I still want their AI to act as threatening as historical nomads were, or CK2 nomads with expansions are.

Remember, Magyars managed to launch devastating raids all the way into Spain and southern Italy before they stopped and settled down (and created Hungary). Various nomads around Black Sea tied up a lot of Byzantine efforts. And then there is Seljuks, Mongols and Timurids.

Same for republics. They can make them playable later, but until then I want them to field huge fleets and mercenaries and attack coasts and rent out ships to crusades and jihads.
