We do have to recognise that there is a lot of abstraction in this game. Note being able to get from Ireland to Britain with out boats, same for crossing the Bosphorus or Dardanelles. So attacking Constantinople from the east implies a abstracted naval event of some sort.
Still while there are few recorded and/or significant naval battles, the peoples of the CK2 game world had been banging boats together, boarding and killing each other on the open water other since Classical times...
