Muslim states around the crusader states like Damascus, Mosul and the city enclaves of Homs etc. did not have anything like feudalism. the basis of power was the old Imperial village which paid taxes to the local lord who was independent and paid lip service only to the caliph. The atabeg of Mosul was an appointment not a grant of that lordship and could be/was taken away at the discretion of the caliph in Baghdad.

I really think that after CK paradox should consider a game governing the time period from the fall of the (western) Roman Empire, covering the rise of Islam, the Viking Era and all and sundry migrations and ending in 1066, with a feature to convert into a CK game. I would certainly buy it :D

The problem with that is that the post-Rome period is -incredibly- different than EU2 and CK. It was a period of chaos, of tribes becoming nations and nations falling to other tribes to create new nations. Finally, it was a time when the holdings of the father would be split among his sons after his death... which means no real dynasties. It would be possible to create a game in this period, but it would have to be quite far removed from the High Middle Ages of CK and the modern period of EU2.

Definitely. Isn't there a game in the making about this period from some French company btw?

Pax Romana is, aledgly, released this year, but it's been delayed before. Great Invasions is still in development, but they have claimed the engine was 99% done...

Edit: A somewhat dead forum here (I see some familiar "faces" there ;))

i think its pretty difficult to protary muslim states accurately for a european game studio ...cos they had different culture, ethics and fuedal system was differant and only way you can accurately make muslim states playable is through extensive research and work from peeps who are historians etc...loook at mtw muslim factions they seem like watered down versions of minor european factions

I don't really see what the culture of modern day Europe has to do with it at all. Modern European culture is so far removed from both medieval European and medieval Muslim culture that extensive research would be required for both. There is really no reason that a European couldn't research Islamic history just as easily as he could research European history....

If a studio put in the proper time and effort, though, I don't see any reason why they couldn't produce an accurate game.... :)
