I was wondering if we can get or if someone can point me to some information on Happiness?

We can see there are some traits, governments, and ethos choices that give positive and negative modifiers to Happiness. What exactly does this affect? Is this just a straight up modifier to revolt risk, or does it have other implications? How does Happiness affect our interactions with other species in our empire? Does Happiness impact inter-empire and intra-empire migrations? Can we get "We Love the Emperor/Corporations/Intergalactic Senate days, akin to the Civilizations games, that boost our food, industrial, and research production? Will we get beneficial or damaging event trees with a high or low Happiness? Is Happiness relevant empire-wide, or only relevant for the specific planet?

I am trying to do some theorycrafting and weigh the benefits of Happiness against other modifiers, but without knowing exactly how Happiness impacts the game, it is difficult.

Please...someone help me find Happiness!

Yeah we don't know too much really.

I think they've said your specie don't like being on the "wrong" planet type, in addition to being less effective. Also, I recall seeing on the twitch broadcast that some policies affects happiness. If you're Militarist you get +5% happiness for being at war, so it's fair to assume a pacifist does not like being at war.

I'd guess Happiness might affect efficiency and loyalty. Happiness is planetbased but there are probably global modifiers.

If you watch the Blorg video, it is a POP thing, it will probably effect the revolt risk of each individual pop, kinda like militancy in Vicky 2, but this time you have to keep it as high as possible so those space commies don't revolt.

I'm sure there is some sort of happiness. Ethos divergence and POPs joining factions are driven politically, but what causes them to declare independence and start a civil war? It could be happiness affected by things like war tolerance, war exhaustion..etc

Having different ethos will probably lower happiness and that in turn will make them more likely to join a different faction then loyalists.

I think it's a safe bet that happiness can minimize revolt risk, but that feels pretty underwhelming if that is all it does. Though we don't know how dangerous internal revolts will be in Stellaris, I think I would rather go for other trait, government, and ethos picks and just exterminate or compromise with the dissidents.

While looking at the Traits, Ethics and Governments I found a combination that makes for a very stable and reliable population.

Conformists: -20% Ethics Divergence
Communal: +5% Happiness
Spiritualist: +5% Happiness
Theocratic Oligarchy: -10% Ethics Divergence

Result:
+10% Happiness
-30% Ethics Divergence

Though I should say that I didn't go as far as I could have because I didn't want to be a pacifist (The occasional war is needed to pass the time :p ). Had I gone Spiritualist Fanatic and Pacifist I could have unlocked Moral Democracy for a whooping +25% Happiness and -20% Ethics Divergence.

I have no idea if my setup is efficient. Modifiers for raw output could very well be better if you want a rich and powerful empire.

I would guess that it will work like militancy in Victoria. In other words, happy pops might be less likely to join factions and take action against the government even if they disagree with it ethically or have other reasons to rebel.

Happiness boosts sound incredibly useful, assuming rebellions remain as frustrating as they were in Victoria.

i maybe be wrong but i believe i saw in the quill18 video that the happiness of his cats affected the output of their tiles

I think you are referring to the -10% efficiency penalty they received because they were Decadent and there were no available slaves on the planet. If you look here, you can see that the population is only collecting 3.60 of the 4 energy they should be collecting. I am not certain, but I believe that is the Decadent penalty in action. Immediately after that here, you can see that the tooltip claims Happiness is related to the chance to rebel. I was wondering if it had any other effects.

One of the tooltips in the Blorg video said that unhappiness affected population growth, but it looked like the Blorg weren't yet unhappy enough to suffer any penalties.

While looking at the Traits, Ethics and Governments I found a combination that makes for a very stable and reliable population.

Conformists: -20% Ethics Divergence
Communal: +5% Happiness
Spiritualist: +5% Happiness
Theocratic Oligarchy: -10% Ethics Divergence

Result:
+10% Happiness
-30% Ethics Divergence

Though I should say that I didn't go as far as I could have because I didn't want to be a pacifist (The occasional war is need to pass the time :p ). Had I gone Spiritualist Fanatic and Pacifist I could have unlocked Moral Democracy for a whooping +25% Happiness and -20% Ethics Divergence.

I have no idea of my setup is efficient. Modifiers for raw output could very well be better if you want a rich and powerful empire.
I don't know enough about the mechanics to be sure about this, but won't intolerance for ethics divergence cause more unrest? After all, it has been strongly implied that Pops will start to diverge as you expand and if they get repressed, they should lash out. So this setup should result in more revolts.

Happines is probably the most important thing in the whole game, even the most powerful empire must fear it as you can never get more powerful then the parts that make up your empire, the pops;)

The -% Ethics Divergence is listed as a positive modifier, so it is fairly safe to assume that a -% Ethics Divergence modifier is not a penalty to your tolerance of pops with a different Ethos, but rather a restriction on their chance to diverge from your main empire Ethos.
