Ever since the latest patch a few days ago, my "Load' And 'Continue' options are greyed out every time I run the game. Even after waiting 20minutes they never show up.
I am having to restart the game at least twice and up to 5 or 6 times before they appear at the start menu.

Hi @LordGorzul !

Sorry that you're experiencing this problem.

This is an issue that we are still actively investigating, and it looks like while we don't yet know exactly what is causing it, we know a method that should fix it.
On Windows, browse to "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Temp\Obsidian Entertainment\Tyranny" and in that folder, delete the file "loadedSave.zip". After this file is deleted, relaunch the game and you should be able to load your saves.
On Linux, this same file is located at "/home/%username%/.cache/unity3d/Obsidian Entertainment/Tyranny".

If that doesn't resolve the issue, could you check to see if your save files are still present on your system? On Windows, the save files for Tyranny can be found at "C:\Users\%username%\Saved Games\Tyranny". On Linux, they can be found at /home/%username%/.local/share/Tyranny/SavedGames.
If the savegame folder is empty, then it unfortunately would seem that the files themselves have been lost. If there are files there, then the issue is that Tyranny is having trouble finding them, which is something we can address.

I hope that helps! Let us know if you continue to have issues.

Thanks for your patience!
-Taylor

I have the very same problem.

In the past this issue was "solved" by restarting the game. Today I wanted to continue my game (22 hours invested), game crashed, after this "continue" and "load game" are both greyed out. Save games are still under %USERPROFILE%\saved games\tyranny. But game doesn't recognize them.

I tried to follow your advice, but couldn't find a file like this under Local\Temp\Obsidian Entertainment\Tyranny - there is no folder like "Obsidian Entertainment" under "Temp" actually.

Only thing I find related to tyranny in AppData are two folders: AppData\LocalLow\Obsidian Entertainment\Tyranny (and TyrannyNews).

The folder "Tyranny" contains another folder "CurrentGame" (which is empty) and a filed called ParadoxAccountData.dat.

(P.S.: Playing on Steam)

Hi @cmi777 !

Sorry you're having trouble with this issue.

Is it possible that there is an "Obsidian Entertainment" folder within the AppData folder of another user on your machine? The loadedSave.zip file should be there somewhere, so hopefully it is just a matter of tracking it down. Could you try doing a search for that filename within your AppData folder to see if for some reason the game put it somewhere else?

Another thing you could try in the meantime is to check if any of your save files are marked as "Read Only" (right-click the file and select Properties). One potential cause of the problem you're experiencing is Read-Only save files giving the game trouble when it tries to load them, so making sure none of them are Read-Only might help.

Let me know if the issue continues and we'll work out what's going on.

Thanks!

Hey Taylor, thanks for the quick heads up. I found the file - I remapped the temp folder to my physical HD, so didn't find it under AppData. Didn't think about this earlier, sorry.

All the save games and the loadedSave.zip are writeable (according to the Windows 10 "properties" dialogue.

But I guess I found the reason: I tried to disable my virus scanner (Avira with commercial licence) and it worked. I added the savegame folder and it seems to work again (no longer greyed out), after adding the game process to the whitelist as well the game loads again (just whitelisting the savegame folder was not enough)

Kinda strange, because I never had issues like this before and I'm running it for quite some time (multiple years) and even tyranny worked before with it. Do you guys know this AV software or what may cause the problem?

Hi @cmi777 !

Glad to hear you found a way to play the game! We've had a couple other reports of antivirus software not playing nice with the game, and we're still working on figuring out why that is. Antivirus services tend to not release many details about why they catch the things that they do (with good reason), so it's been difficult for us to pin down why they sometimes flag save files. For now, it seems like whitelisting the game is the best recommendation we make on that front.

Thanks for the info, and let me know if you have any further issues!

-Taylor

I've got this very problem as well. I've got at least three saved games that I can find the save game files for in the documents, and I've looked for the "loadedSave.zip" file without success, and I got a whole lot shorter adress for the save files than the path posted above to help me navigate. I've also looked over the anti-virus and it told me that Tyranny was not trusted but had access, and I've played the game without a hitch in the past, so for good measure I reaffirmed the access part for Tyranny but found no other way to further ok the game and when the anti-virus asked me if I should let Tyranny run, and I allowed it to run.

And to be honest I don't really expect to get a fast solution. I post this here in order to create some aweness for it and if I can get help with running the game here and now it would be great, but if I get to wait a little while the good people at Obsidian Entertainment work on the solution which in the near future will let me play the game again, I'm ok with that as well. :)

Hello @Gutkhal,

It very much sounds like the Anti-Virus is blocking the exe from retrieving the save files. I see in your comments above that you have added an exception for the launcher, but you may also need to add an exception for the save files folder and/or the folder Taylor mentioned above.

I'm not sure there is much we can do about the issue itself, but could you tell me which anti-virus software you are using so we can give it a shot?

I am sorry for the trouble this is causing,
David

Thanks for the response! :)

I've got Norton, and I've purged my computer of the McAfee abomination that lurked in its dark corners.

Now the funny thing is this, sometime things works and sometime they don't. When I got Tyranny back, I could load and continue, then I left and started the game again, can't load or continue games. I messed some with the properties to Save A to make it "read-only" and when I tried out Tyranny, Save C was accessable for one go, but when I restarted the game, no save was accessable.

I'm gonna try some new stuff, but it looks like I'll be down to running the game from start to finish in a single go if I want to play it.

Interesting, thank you for the info @Gurkhal. The other thing I could recommend is moving out all of your save files to a safe place so that your save directory is empty except for the 1 save you want to be using. Just in case you have a corrupt save file that is doing something unexpected.

Hi @LordGorzul !
On Windows, browse to "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Temp\Obsidian Entertainment\Tyranny" and in that folder, delete the file "loadedSave.zip". After this file is deleted, relaunch the game and you should be able to load your saves.

I got this problem after purchasing the Tales of the Tiers expansion today, and this fix worked for me. You might want to point out that the 'appdata' directory is hidden from normal users in Windows, and you have to either type the path directly, or unhide system files in the Explorer settings.
