Okay so I saw on YouTube that there is a province count limit of 10 (and surpassing it gives -1 republican tradition) but that was an old version and it was removed? I used the “integrate” console command to integrate my vassals in the Balkans to check. Way more than 10 provinces (stated too), no notification. It was called “big merchant republic” or something. Was it removed?

Then I thought maybe the system was outdated and maybe they lowered Government Capacity for merchant republics when they added the mechanic. Is that the case? The tooltip for the government type doesn’t mention it, hovering over Government Capacity doesn’t show a penalty either.

All in all, is there a limit to your expanansion as a merchant republic that’s specific to you being a merchant republic?

True, there is a %25 penalty in Gov.Capacity in states instead of province limit.

It also applies to your capital state so it's not %99 cheaper like any other nations. It's %74. If you concentrate too much development and need extra gov capacity, you may want to build a state house in a capital state province.

On the good side, you have -%25 bonus to Gov.Capacity cost in trade company provinces.

Other then these, it's the same as the rest.

Yeah, they removed the 20 province limit and just gave it a +25% gov capacity cost. They also removed the bonus to goods production from their own provinces though.

Objectively, MR is weak with little going on for them, and we can expect not a whole lot to change about this since it's part of a very old DLC.
