They may be added in at a later date, but Italy and especially Japan aren't exactly famous for their major tank designs, are they? It wouldn't surprise me if they're added along with an expansion, though.

Neither was Poland and now look, Paradox made up some tanks for them. Japanese and Italian tanks are still quite well known and infamous.

they arent included no. I actually asked during the WWW modding stream with Dan 'Podcat' Lindt (project lead) and he said that they werent done in time and dont had the highest priority because they didnt felt that those two were that important and that they will be done at a later date. I actually kinda have to agree on that, since italy and japan are nations that probably will focus on the airforce and the navy anyway.

Italy and Japan already have their own flavored tank trees. They simply dont have all as 3d models, thats all. The Tank packs include 9 purely cosmetic 3d models of each tank for them in the game. By default nations start with 3 (one light, medium and one heavy tank) to represent each category of tanks. With those pack each of the 12 tanks of the majors (except japan and italy for now) will have 3d models driving around on the map.

xaCjyRK.jpg

For germany for example without the sprite packs that would be probably the pzII for light, the pzIV for the mediums and the Tiger I for the heavy tanks, even if your tank division consists of Tiger II for example. It would still show as a Tiger I model without the pack.

Most of the Japanese tanks are made up anyways so it'll be interesting to see how that goes.

A lot of the japanese tanks in the game were very much real. Mostly only extended to a single prototype but did exist. and didn't get mass produced due to metal shortages which got sent to the navy and airforce instead.

There will be so many DLC for this game, it's unreal.

Most probably Japan and Italy at least will have its own unique three tank 3d models (light, medium, heavy), unlike all other minor countries. I think that's enough for countries that were not using tanks extensively and even in game terms they are not really prepared to fare a tank heavy wars.

Oh, I didn't read that bit.
The O-I I recognise as a "paper tank". Its design is very inter-war influenced similar to the russian T-35 (Which unlike the O-I did exist)
The majority of the Heavy tree I don't recognise but the mediums and light were most definitely real.
Some of them, especially the later ones (Chi-ri & Chi-nu) were not mass produced because the japanese didn't face the M4 that often for it to warrant a counter mass produced and shipped to every island.

But yes. Most of their tanks came from the war with China. After that it kinda went to a halt with land warfare being a secondary.
Hence the surplus in Light tanks. Back then they were some of the best available.

The O-I was made, but only two of them. Thing is, the O-I that was made is what's called the "Iwakuro" on the tech tree, and the "O-I" is simply a later variant. (i.e. there was one early model made, which this tree calls "Iwakuro", and one late model, which it calls "O-I", while they were both O-Is. They were also both very much super-heavies.) The Type 2604 should be called Type 4. Other than that it's all fine.

There really should be earlier Super-Heavies, though. Several of the major powers used them, and early game is possibly when they'd be most useful. The whole tree kinda needs looking at in layout.

It's pixel art there isn't need to make it 100% historical accurate. From the Carro Sahariano to heavy tank mockups we know the design language where Italian tanks where going. L, M or P and then tonnage that matches equivalent tanks and a year appropriate for the tech and call it a day.

Italy:
Light tanks
L3/38 L6/40 then maybe L10/42(47/40 cannon art) - L15/44(75/32 cannon art) - L20/46(75/46 cannon art)

Medium tanks:
M11/39 > M13/40 M15/42 > M16/43 w/75/32 ?> ?? M20/44 w 75/46 ?> M30/45 w 90/42?
Celere-Sahariano.jpg

Heavy tanks:
P26/40 > P30/43 > P30/43 Bis w 90/42 > P35/43(Panther) w90/53 > ? P40/45 w 105/25? seems a natural progression.

absolutely this!
As japan or italy you just dont have the need/resources to build alot of tanks. Its more like caf and inf
