Recently during my Novgorod campaign after 200 years of alliance Poland in matter of days went from Friendly to Hostile because they chose Austria as they Rival and it turned out that I had alliance with both Austria and Poland. This seems... stupid. Unrealistic and inefficient. So what I'd like to see is just some kind of diplomatic message from Poland like: "We've decided that Austria is now our enemy. You have to decide: you are either with us or against us" with option to either break alliance with Poland or with Austria. What do you guys think?

What would be a great addition is a new tab devoted to diplomatic "webs". Where you could tick countries and it'd show show with lines their relationships. If two of you allies became rivals it could give a notification in the UI "conflicting alliances" or something. I often end up just allying 1 power, so that I don't accidentally get dragged into war against my most important ally, because I failed to monitor all my alliances every second.

Or when you take a province in India, Portugal could ask you for it before breaking your several hundred years long alliance.

Portugal in this case should just stop being a whiny jerk, though. There's plenty of coastline in India; one province isn't going to make or break them but the AI SWEARS UP AND DOWN it does.

Yeah, whenever an AI updates its internal list of 'enemies', it should offer any previous ally a chance to remain such by breaking relations etc.
It is in Poland's interest to NOT gain more enemies than needed anyway. Offering peace costs it nothing.

I doubt they turned on you because you were allied with their rival, usualy it's either a mission they take that involves territory you have that causes it. Being weak and taking a province they have a claim on can also do it though, but less likely at good relations.

@applecar18

I didn't check that, but still seems kind of silly to dissolve 200-year alliance.

@BaZERGer

Perhaps they wanted my Kurland, but sacrificing 200-year alliance for ONE province? Oh, and they didn't even attack me anyway, just broke alliance and went sassy all over the place

That's how it works, they change attitude to hostile very strongly based on provinces they want due to missions, no matter how much trust has been built between you, once their attitude is hostile, they'll break their alliance, but they won't declare war unless they feel they actualy have a chance to win against you and your allies.
