Having just recently learned about HOI4 coming out relatively soon (yup, been under a rock lately...) I decided to fie up the old tried and true HOI3 and brush up on things as it's been almost a couple of years since I've played last. Anyway, I'm playing as Japan and decide to declare war on France and start to take over some of their Indochina lands. I'm not sure when it happened, whether immediately after doing this or some time afterward, as I'm fighting with Britain, France, the Netherlands I notice that there are no longer any factions at all and Germany is not at war with anyone and it's early '41. Yes, I started in '36 and devoured China right away. Is this just some mechanic that I'm not aware of or even forgot about or is this some sort of bug? I'm thinking of seeing if I can find an earlier save game before this happened and see if I can replicate it, despite losing lots of advances... :( Thanks for any help/insight you can give on this!

If you go really aggro early on the game derails - the factions are still there if you look at them in the diplomacy tab, but the behavior of who and what factions do what goes totally off the rails if you do. Unless you've done some pretty hardcore modding or the game itself is FUBAR factions should still exist because they're basically hardcoded in.

Thanks for the reply. No mods at all, just vanilla. This is what I see:

Yes, I have been aggressive but am surprised at the state of things now... No one is at war except myself. I tried going back to a save before my war with France and it was the same, so my theory of that war being the trigger was wrong... The only other thing I can think of was that I read on the forum about using a "noneutral" cheat so I tried it just to see what it would do. Would that cause this? If so, then it's my own stupid fault. :(

Nope, no editing of anything, only playing vanilla game and this happened to me at some point in this game... Frustrating as it seems to have made everyone else not want to war with each other. :(
