I bought EU2 yesterday. I live in Spain so I got it by mail, original copy from Strategy First.
Installed it and everything seemed OK, but soon the problems started: first of all I realised it was quite slower than EU1, then after maybe 1/2 hour of playing, the game shut down (I can remember EU1 doing this too, before the updates).
OK, I got the US update, although I don't know exactly if my copy is US or UK. Let's go again, no problem at all, it even seemed to get a bit faster, but... Now I can't play at all! When I try to run the game I get a message going "no disc inserted".
First of all let me say that the disc IS inserted of course, and I have tried to run other games, no problem at all. I have uninstalled everything, installed it again, no way. What can I do?

Maybe posting your config? ;)

Without more details about your hardware, I can't help you :(

There's a sticky "please read" on top of the forum, it contains suggestions and a list of what I need.

First of all, the message mentioned above doesn't appear now (I don't know why), but I have a lot of problems with game sounds. Anyway I have read of many bugs in 1.03, should I upgrade to 1.04 I think...

Game version: US (Strategy First), 1.03
OS: Windows XP pro
CPU: AMD Duron 700 mhz
RAM: 256 mb
Free HDD space: 30 gb
Video: Riva TNT 2
Audio: SoundBlaster Live! 5.1
CD-ROM: Atapi CD-ROM 40x

Hope this helps...

check the running problems thread about the sound, there is a fix (if it's what I think it is).

Otherwise, just post me your problem :)

Since the original problem is now solved, no need to search for it :D

I had the same no disc inserted message. My CD-ROM is not drive D: so the computer does not find the disc when looking there. However I can run the game by clicking on the icon for my CD-ROM instead of the EU2.exe icon.

Here we go again...

The same message again, 'no disc inserted'

Thanks Lambert but:
  • My CD-ROM is D:
  • Clicking on CD icon I get the splash screen, and when I click on 'play' I get the error message
    [/list=a]
    Any more ideas?

1. update to patch 1.04, if you can
2. rename the AVI folder (You're using XP and that can cause problems)
3. Update all your drivers, especially your motherboards drivers; they have new versions for XP and you should get them, it might just solve your problem.
4. Update your BIOS.
