Jihad is certainly used as a slogan or name by those movements, for instance the al jihad group :
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egyptian_Islamic_Jihad
So what ?

Jihad have been consistently used by about everybody in the Islamic World during the past 2 centuries. The Algerian Independence war was named a Jihad back then and the veterans are called Mujaheddin (including in officials documents) although the victors founded the "République Algérienne Démocratique et Populaire" (still the official name of the state as of today).

Pretty much every anti colonial uprising was a Jihad. And absolutely everybody in the Islamic World currently fighting against the Islamic State or al-Qaeda talk about their struggle as a Jihad and call their fighters "Mujaheddin". Including ... non-Muslim people.

On the other hand how many people use exclusive Daesh slogan in the MENA ? Nobody except members. Just as in Occident, nobody but Neo-Nazi swear "Deus Vult".

And lol @ the man trying to teach someone the meaning of cultural reference by using Wikipedia as a source.

The slogane of ISIS is Allahu Akbar
lol

At take you consider every Muslim as IS then. Good thing a lot of people like you will go away from Crusader Kings just because of a sentence then.

As always the alt-right nazi trolls ruin everything.

It's media actually, who give their best to turn a meme into this kind of sensation for their own gain. And even more so idiots who bite in instead of just ignoring this attempt of generating artificial outrage.

PDX can always bring up the argument that for the sake of having any historical resemblance that the game requires mechanic X or gameplay element Y. But guess what? Two words that barely have any influence on the game are apparently not a hill worth dying on.

We both may disagree with their decision but its quite the jump to go from this to "just remove everything from the game cuz pandering"

Like I said, that's simply what I've seen in other games and seeing that something was already announced as removed from CK3 (even though right now we're only discussing wording), I am worried what else no longer made it, or will be taken out. Thankfully I got Xbox Game Pass and CK3 seems to be going there, so I'll be able to try it out once it releases. Before that point was mentioned in the article, it would have been an insta buy for me on steam, because I would be planning on owning DLCs and Xbox Game pass tends to only give people the base game, but now I want to see how much of the game is still in the game first.

You're literally getting offended at a game not including an irrelevant phrase.

There is a difference between removing a historically relevant phrase and not including an irrelevant phrase.

It really shouldn't be that hard to comprehend that you need more of a justification to remove something than you do to not include something that wasn't previously included.

This thread is an awful read.
It's an understandable move in that Paradox has gotten bad rep due to the popularity of Deus Vult (but more so, HOI) being popular with some pretty questionable far-right crowd linked to terroritst incidents - with that background, either way would be been controversial to some degree.
I probably would have not omitted it for purposes of accuracy, but it's debatable given the context - and ultimately it's a debate about a piece or two of flavour text in a bloody computer game, not a majorly creative interpretation of history. The overblown outrage and raving about "the SJWs" looks easily worse.

It will be hilarious as hell if they will ban Deus Vult a term used merely by roleplay from their game yet leave words like Jihad and Alahu Akbar that get used every week around world while committing acts of murder to spread terror and death..

Ahh pandering to modern low IQ socio-political issues. what can go wrong eh?

It adds historical accuracy, it’s a blatant attempt to rewrite history to appease the vocal few ‘woke’ minority.
Not adding an irrelevan phrase is not rewritting history. If someone wants to learn about history they should read a book, not play videogames that just care about making profits

I already marked this on Steam as Ignored.

Not because of the phrase itself, but because of what it will mean for the continuous development of the game. Who knows, maybe we'll see a "Deus Vult" linguistic package for just $14.99 a few months after release, giving Catholics more flavourful texts.

GG.

What's interesting to me is that a lot of people in twitch chat started talking about the takbir (the phrase Allahu akbar), which is funny, because the takbir, despite being an extremely common Arabic expression and an integral statement of Islamic faith, does not appear anywhere in the localisation for CK2.

I think it's a great idea, solely based on the fact that so many idiots are offended by it and have promised to stay away from the game.
I'd love for the community of my medieval child murdering incest simulator to have less outright fascists and enlightened centrists turning it into a toxic mess.

I know many young people who learn through video games they’re the new medium of young people removing a phrase as crucial Deus Vult to the period for no apparent reason then that some bad people use it is just stupid beyond belief

I'm not going to buy the game if Paradox doesn't clear this up. It's ridiculous and stupid. If you really feel a need to distance yourself from Alt-right add some sort of explanation to it somewhere in the game.
Removing it because some minority is offended by it is just not a good decision and feels like tampering with history. If you go this route make sure that these snowflakes will buy enough of your DLCs to cover for these for all the fans who won't buy the game.
