No Council of Trent?

I'm playing a GC as Portugal. It's 1565 now. My manual says that the Council of Trent event should happen from 1545 to 1563... but it never happened.

The Papal States had this event, though:

"February 18, 1545 : Papal States had The Counter-Reformation and the Reformation of the Catholic Faith ."

But that never turned on the option to change to CRC. And the Papal States are still Catholic.

I have, playing as Portugal, refused both the Inquisition and the Jesuits. I wonder if that had any effect on the problem.

Try a save and reload, that sometimes triggers events.

I've done lots of reloads during that period, since my gaming sessions are usually short... no dice. I may cheat the event in, I think.

Had that happen once... I was using the IGC as Pfalz though. I just gave up, as I wanted to be the defender of the Protestant faith really early just to see if my little empire could survive, but it got a little too powerful before I finaly noticed.

I can't find a save file before 1600, unfortunately......

But here are a few details :
-GC 1.05 French, 1419 start, no modifications
-Playing as Savoy, I diploannexed most of Italy. The Papal states were annexed by .... The Ottomans I think, but Roma changed hands very often. However, they never revolted.
Now that I think of it, Tordesillas didn't happen either.

Is it a pre-requisite for the Luther and Calvin events to happen?
Also, what are the time limits for those events?

The really big offsets mean the events can be delayed for a long time, and I've heard reports of them not happening at all before. Saving/reloading rerolls the event offsets, so do that until they trigger if you've been waiting too long.

Yes, never (or rather: hardly ever) believe the manual, it will do you little good.

The FAQ forum is a better place to find what answers you may seek, although I am not sure if the Council being a decade off is mentioned there...

Yes, I've been browsing here for a month now, but no need to do the heavy posting... at least until I finish my first GC (yes, I'm a very slow player - all messages pause the game, I read them all... I'm savouring the game like a good wine )
