Only way to get BB-WARS is to play at very hard , elsy you only get a nasty reputation and some disgruntled neighbors that will DoW you if you seem weak.

Change difficulty to very hard, however, and see the lemmings fly, fly towards your throat ;)

Total BB-war only on very hard.

However, on patch 1.05 BB-reduction differs some more. Base BB-reduction is 1 per 4 years, on hard difficulty it is 1 per 8 years.
On very hard it is 1 per six years. This will be changed in patch 1.06, though.

So if I would be hated throughout the entire world on hard level/aggressivity normal I wouldn't get too much DoWs if I had very strong army?

With at least 100K-150K* in your armies on less than very hard, nobody dares declare war on you at all, no matter how high your BB is.

*This level is higher if abnormally powerful AI nations exist. Just use the 100K-150K as a rule of a thumb.

On normal, I get plenty of DoW's from strong countries (Russia, France, Spain, etc.) with a 100k army starting at a reputation of very bad.

If they have a better CRT than you, or you are in a war already they will be more likely to attack you despite your strength because they feel they have one up on you.

I lost a province, 100-200 gold and a bit of face in my last smash and grab thing in exchange for 1 tp.... (beat England in America)

You do not get true BBwars unless you play on Veryhard. The ones you get on the lower levels are just wars of opportunity and can be avoided with enough strength. True BB wars cannot.

Manpower is the inevitable problem, though. Quantity can only do so much, and it's rather hard to judge whether or not you have a large enough base to take on the usual France on steroids.

Since Quizzical was talking about Spain, France, Russia &etc in opposition, it is likely that he was talking about playing as a European nation. European nations can hire mercenaries to make up for lack of manpower. Two or three years with minting of coin should be plenty to hire enough mercenaries and recruit to get the troops to deter BB aggressors (on less than very hard, that is), assuming they have even a moderate income for a high-BB nation. It does cost a few percent inflation, but is likely cheaper than fighting fruitless wars against the larger European nations because of high BB and low armystrength.
