I am trying to play Venice. I notice that if I give up core provinces for peace I do not lose badboy points. Is this correct? If so, the badboy FAQ needs updating. I play 1.07 last beta (March 2, 2004), which should be functionaly equivalent to 1.08 vanilla. Vassalizing of core provinces still gives badboy loss as it should.

You are correct. I play 1.08 with latest beta and I lose BB when I release vassals that are cores :) ...but I dont when I lose cores in war:( . Also I dont lose BB when provinces rebel away, core or not :( .

Side question - Is it true that you gain 1 BB for every colony and trading post you gain when you DA a country (according to FAQ you do) ? This sounds very strange, if it is true, why is it so, since you dont gain BB for these territories in peace settlement...

EDIT: I think they changed the one about losing cores in war, because people abused the system and would lose cores on purpose to lower BB, then retake them later gaining no BB.

Thank you for confirmation. If anyone else would like to confirm or refute please do so, since I will propose a change to the FAQ on this basis.

I did not test the diplo-annexation. I assume the FAQ is correct about 1 BB per province since I have seen other people say it is so as well. I only corrected the things in the FAQ I knew to be wrong. I did not do the actual FAQ myself. In know that you can lose one badboy for every colony or trade post vassalized or declaring independence. If you can get a nearby province to supply you with rebels, you can make trade posts in South America around Aires and let them declare independence. You lose badboy. Then you can raze the trade posts to end the war and start over.

Yes, losing cores in war could be abused. The solution however is a shortcut that leaves a lot to be desired. I think that if you lose a core more than once, you should not lose badboy. That requires something extra in the saved game. That is probably why they did not implement it that way.

From the 1.08 vanilla thread/sticky: http://www.europa-universalis.com/forum/showthread.php?t=135911

- It is no longer possible to abuse badboy by seceding core provinces in a peace and then retake them.

Yes, I read that. It did not say how abuse of the badboy/core issue was dealt with. No loss of badboy for losing cores in war is not the best way to do it.

When 1.08 came out, I believe that there was chatter in various threads about how BB was no longer reduced when a core was lost ( not much of a confirmation ). I simply assumed that the obtuse line above was Paradox's subtle way of documenting the "new and improved" behaviour that you are observing.

I sent this to Castellon:

I propose the following change to Badboy FAQ 1.08:

Replace:

Losing Badboy points

Losing a city province having a religion
other than pagan in a peace deal:
1

With:

Losing Badboy points

Losing a core province in a peace deal:
0

Losing a non-core city province having a religion
other than pagan in a peace deal:
1
