AC were an awesome brigade in TFH. Hardly ever used? I know plenty of people that used them regularly.

There's nothing like watching a LARM/MOT/AC/AC division running around at 13 kph in open terrain. And maximum fun was running faster ARM divisions using AC instead of SPART.

Yeah they became awesome after some time, through it took some expansions to sort it out.

I'm still not entirely clear why driving an armored car next to my tank makes my tank go faster in HoI3. The not well documented division move speed bonus is kinda weird and without it, there's not a whole lot of point to them.

They also have low softness, which lets you avoid hits from soft attack. They are also less than half the cost (and supply requirements) of SPART or TD, which you'd generally be replacing.

Secret Master brought me around on them as components of cost and supply effective ARM support.

Recon capability. You can drive your armor through an area at higher operational speed when you know that your recon forces already checked it out.

Division speed in HOI3 is not vehicle speed. It's operational speed: how fast can a formation move and still do its damn job. AC, in the right terrain, help improve that speed.

They also have low softness, which lets you avoid hits from soft attack. They are also less than half the cost (and supply requirements) of SPART or TD, which you'd generally be replacing.

They are indeed. While not the perfect brigade for all occasions, there are plenty of situations where they represent an excellent trade off between cost and capability.

Secret Master brought me around on them as components of cost and supply effective ARM support.

I suppose 'hardly ever' and 'plenty of' are relative. Everyone 'I' know who plays the game have no use for them and I stand by the notion that not even the AI uses them.

I stand by the notion that not even the AI uses them.

The AI also stacks ships in fleets in abysmal combinations, randomly assigns brigades to divisions when items finish in the build queue, puts MR, TAC, and INT all in the same stack, and bombs Dortmund 800 times in a row despite being intercepted and thoroughly trounced by interceptors all 800 times.

So, you know, take the AI's behavior with a grain of salt.

I give a much fuller treatment of the whole AC thing here: https://www.paradoxplaza.com/hearts-of-iron-communist-campaign-in-karelia

Yeah I don't think we need armored cars as their own buildable unit. HoI3 had that and it was hardly ever used, even by the AI.

Thruth to be said, in hoi 3, with its regiment based division build system, many units were not taht useful, simply and plainly because you have just 4 or 5 slots to make a division, and you have to prioritize, but hoi iv has a division build system based on battallions, where you can use up to 16 slots instead of five, iirc, so that gives units far more sense, especially because all have their specific use, differently to hoi iii were some units hadnt a real specific use that they could made better than anybody else.

Players should be able to go four ways with their recon squadrons:

1. Trucks (ex. LRDG)
2. Halftracks
3. Armored cars
4. Light tanks

Each of these would then give different costs (trucks are far cheaper than tanks), offense, defense, and speed statistics. For example an all-truck recon battalion might have problems finding out information as soon as it runs into an enemy line. Whereas an armored car or light tank unit might be able to "punch through" deeper to see further back into an enemy's rear area and get more details.

It would just seem to be a shame that they'd have all these cool trees for tanks, but not for armored cars.
Indeed Peter, hence we will definitely be relying upon @Cpack and others to mod this FLAVOUR into the gameplay....
