what are the thoughts of the way LRM's work in the game especially in MP?

To me and the few guys I play with they are a huge issue, why in the world are LRM able to fly through mountains, cliffs, buildings and so on and hit teh mech standing directly behind what should be cover? Why is there no hit detection for the LRM that fly THROUGH these obsticles?

and why no AMS? AMS would be a very welcome addition to discourage the constant fall back strategy of sensor locking and proceeding to arc LRM's over ( I mean through!!) obstacles

Anti-missile systems are not rediscovered until the Helm memory core which is technically after the time this game takes place. I'm not saying it is impossible to include them, I'm just saying from a timeline perspective, they do not exist yet.

As for LRMs... It is indirect fire. The distances we face arenot long enough to require a perfect 45 degree launch angle for max distance. So unless your cover is literally overhead, the missile could go up and rain down from above. You may not like it,but it would happen. Just be glad there is No tipside hit table as the head would be much more of an easy target.

As for multiplayer, use evasion, bulwark and cover to reduce damage greatly. They will run out of LRMs before killing you.

The computer rolls to see which missiles hit and where they land. It then draws the best line it can from the firing unit to the target location, and sometimes the only to way to reach the location hit is through terrain slightly. Its a holdover from tabletop, line of sight is drawn from head to head/centre torso iirc.

The game uses... five?... points on each mech to determine LOS. It isn't a single location on each. If some of the locations are blocked by terrain, it causes the obstructed shot accuracy penalty. If too many of them are blocked, they can't fire directly, but can do indirect fire with LRMs.

AMS being lostech was always one of those things that confused me. It's an MG linked to a fairly basic targeting system. AFAIK the only reason it was lostech was just because it wasn't in the original TRO.

Yeah, that would be tye general assumption. However, we don't know the exact technology of the missiles. Perhaps they have a basic anti-radar property that requires there to be a lost tech detector to track. We just don't know.

That said, given the date of the original game, anti-missile systems weren't common/heard of/declassified. It wasn't included because the creators most-likely didn't know about them. It happens.

Still, i've always felt for the limited good those systems did in game, they were not worth the tonnage for the gun and ammo.
