could someone tell me how i update my drivers, i did number 5.3 on that list and now political mapmode works but the hole crazy black things posted in various pictures above is still there, but im stupid with computers and dont know how to find the drivers let alone update/delete them.

It depends on which Graphics card you have.

Have the same problem unfortunately, have the black shadows of different continents spread all over the map. Does anyone know how to update the driver for a packard bell laptop with Intel HD Graphics 3000? Probably me being a complete noob but just can't seem to find any updates anywhere for it....

I have the same issue, but I have an integrated card (Core i3, HD 2000) that runs CK2 just fine, as well as Medieval/Empire TW and TF2. I have no driver updates, and had the same problem in the demo. Please fix this Paradox, please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .

I am also having the same problem, and force=no is not solving it nor is uninstalling and reinstalling it helping in anyway, I have a Intel(R) HD Graphics (Core i3) which can run Crusader kings 2 and Victoria 2 with no issue.

Please post a DxDiag of your system (same for everyone that posted above my reply).

• Open your Start menu
• Type "dxdiag" in the search field (without quotes).
• Open the dxdiag program.
• A window called "DirectX Diagnostic Tool" should pop up now.
• At the bottom right-hand side, click on "Save all information".
• Save it to a place where you can find it easily, for example your desktop.

Ok I managed to fix my problem, the solution was to in the graphic card control panel to set the game to use the NVIDIA graphic cards instead of the integrated graphics. I guess this is probably the issue for most with laptops since laptops are stupid in that way. I use a laptop.

I've seen this same issue and solution coming by quite a couple of times, will be adding it to the known issues and solutions thread.

Not to mention fixing that issue made graphic performance 10 times better, now I can play on max settings without problem

Correct, I see it was already added

As for the performance increase, that's not really weird as it uses the proper graphics card now rather than the integrated card.

I only have the one graphics card option, have uninstalled the game, deleted all remaining documents, updated drivers, reinstalled the game, adjusted the settings to force = no, and tried solution 9. in the known problems thread.
The issue still persists. Is there anything else I can try? (I'm noting that a few others in the thread seem to have gone this far too and are also using Desktops.)

If anyone is interested, switching Draw_terrain to No in settings still causes the looming shadows even though the continents (or indeed, any land at all) no longer exists.
I honestly have no clue where they come from.


Going based off the D+T mod team and how they solved the issue (With a new colormap) I snooped around the color map directories and found this.

The text document there saying colormap contains that line up there (underlined.)
Now, I have absolutely no clue what it means, but if it's supposed to be pointing you toward a file in map // terrain that is titled "colormap_hires"that file simply doesn't exist. Again, I have no idea what i'm doing so this may be entirely expected.

Ok I managed to fix my problem, the solution was to in the graphic card control panel to set the game to use the NVIDIA graphic cards instead of the integrated graphics. I guess this is probably the issue for most with laptops since laptops are stupid in that way. I use a laptop.

Where can I find the graphics card control panel (I think I already found it but want to make sure)?

Other than that I've tried updating drivers, restarting my computer, and changing the force_pow2_textures. Nothing worked. I can run CK2 and Victoria 2 with only minimal lag, and the game itself (other than this problem) also runs pretty well, so I don't think it's because I don't have good enough specs.

I searched the web, but it seems that there are no alternative drivers to the 2010 drivers for the radeon x1950 xtx (or any other x1900 serie ati videocards, who are the minimum required cards for EU4), so the 2010 drivers are indeed the most recent ones available. It makes me wonder what has changed in the Clausewitz engine between CK2 and EU4 that makes this glitches appear in EU4 but not in CK2 (does EU4 now depend on some driver thingie that's not present in the radeon x1900 drivers and that CK2 isn't using?).

Alright, Paradox, I do not have two graphics cards, my drivers are fully updated, and I have no problem with games that are at least as much if not more graphically demanding that EU4. This has been a problem since the demo, please just give us a patch! PLEASE I BEg OF YOU!!!!
