[NMI] map graphics issue

Hi all,

I've got a map graphics issue. Since a picture explains it better than I could do with mere words, I provide here some screenshots:

Here are my system specs:
proc: Core i5-3450 3.1GHz 6MB LGA1155 Quad-core
mobo: Asrock B75 PRO3-M
ram: Corsair 16GB 1600MHz CL10 DDR3 CML16GX3M2A1600C10
graphics: ATI Radeon X1950 XTX 512 MB ram
OS: Windows 7 ultimate 64 bits.

I have installed the latest videodrivers for my videocard

I know that my videocard is a bare minimum card, but still, the issue persists if I turn all graphics settings on the lowest setting, if I change my resolution, if I go windowed or fullscreen. I can run Crusader Kings 2 without problems.

Ok, I know that this problem is known and there are solutions over here. I did try them:
1. I run the latest drivers.
2. I'm running on a desktop and not on a laptop, but I made sure that I'm running with the right videocard (not with the onboard card of my motherboard).
3. I tried force_pow2_textures=yes and force_pow2_textures=no: you can see the result in the screenshots I provided.

Do you guys have any more ideas on how to fix this issue?

How did you get your water to look like that? Mine is shimmering and causing lag.

Exactly the same story here also.
Updated drivers, though card is bare minimum, messed with all the settings, reinstalled game and restarted computer 10+ times each, still same problem. CK2 works perfectly.

The first screenshots just had the standard settings: all options on 'yes' and multi-sample level on 4. Only in the last two I turned all options off and multi-sample on 0. Maybe it helps that despite my older videocard I have 16 GB of ram? Well, only on the lag-front, not on my map graphics issue, heh.

Exactly the same problem here in all cases. Admittedly with a legacy graphics card - but CK2 works fine with it.

force_pow2_textures=no restores colour to the map, but screws up the coastlines and doesn't fix the problem with shadows of landmasses and seas appearing out of place.

the only time I've been able to cause this issue is with a GPU that didn't meet specs, need dxdiags from all of you to investigate this further.

Did some light googling and found the issue came up with the demo.
I havn't tried uninstall/reinstall AFTER updating drivers and purging all the documents, and apparently that worked with the demo according to this thread:

If this turns out to work, i'd recommend adding this solution to the known problems page.

1. Update Drivers
2. Uninstall
3. Completely remove all documents about Eu4 from your computer
4. Re-install
5. Edit settings document to forceorwhatever = no
6. Play

UPDATE
No such luck. I was unable to replicate the results from the thread about the demo.

The manufacturer hasn't updated the drivers in a couple of years (I have an ati radeon x1950 xtx, and the latest drivers are from 2010). But I did a reinstall of EU4, and that didn't help.

Edit: @Had a dad, if you happen to know where any newer drivers can be found other than these 2010 drivers from the official amd-site (they bought ati a couple of years ago), I'd love to hear it

More google-fu suggests that the Death and Taxes mod caused similar problems for some of it's users, and that the problem was resolved for them by downloading a smaller colormap.

Edit: About what I said above. Not running a mod should be the very first thing to do if you have issues with the game. We can only help you with vanilla version issues.

Oh, i'm not running a mod on Eu4, I was just noting that they experienced the same problem with their mod (For eu3) that is happening with some players on the EU4 release. Trying Item 9 now, will let you know.

This is a vanilla version issue.

Downloading that smaller colourmap from Death and Taxes won't be of much help here, since it's an EU3 mod and EU4 has a completely different map (a Victoria 2 based map).

I tried the number 9 option by deleting the gfx-folder and editing the settings.txt. That didn't help tough
