I also have save game problem plus i cant start tutorial. I wait for long time but still not working then it stops responding.
I can start a game but cannot save (loading for a long time).

As for the others, are there any antivirus/firewall messages that blocks the game from accessing the necessary folders?

I'm using Linux and I do not have a firewall or Antivirus Programm running.
I installed the game into my home directory and there I have full access to ever folder and file in it, if you figured it is a problem with the right management.

IcratoX you know what is weird in my opinion that I can save on my notebook and on my desktop pc I can not, but both machines run the same OS they only have different hardware of course.
Would help if I post the Logfiles from the notebook where I can Save the game, too?

Let's try a full clean installation, cause I am currently not sure where the problem could be.

  • Important: Go to '..\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Europa Universalis IV\save games\' and copy all the save games you want to keep outside the folder.
  • Go to your Steam Games library, right click on "Europa Universalis IV" and select "Delete content".
  • Go to the steam installation folder at '..\Steam\SteamApps\common\', and check if the Europa Universalis IV folder is removed. If not, delete the entire folder.
  • Go to '..\My Documents\Paradox Interactive\' and remove the entire Europa Universalis IV folder.
  • Install the game, make sure you install the game outside the 'C:\Program Files\' or 'C:\Program Files (x86)\' folders, as it can cause issues with permissions.

my steam folder is in the d: drive. i never install games on c: drive.
do you suggest that i make another new folder outside d: drive (maybe in e: or f: folder)?
or perhaps there is a way to change eu save folder from documents folder? maybe if i change the save folder to another drive it can work?

Sorry but I did that allready 4 times without any changes. What I also tried is to make a backup from my notebook installation with Steam and I would like to make a installation with the backup on my desktop pc, but I do not know how to install those backup files on Linux.

Something that might help you is, that my savegame files are created on the desktop pc, but they are empty. I opened them with a texteditor there is nothing in it.

No viar, installing outside the program files folders should be enough, no need to make a separate partition for it.

As for the empty savegames, that is really weird. Could you maybe check if you got that as well viar? Go to '..\My Documents\Paradox Interactive\Europa Universalis IV\save games\' and open a savegame that is giving a problem with a simple text editor like notepad. Let me know if they show up empty as well please.

Yep viar that's what I think, too. On my notebook the Savefile has content in it. So the problem must be somewhere else and it is not a problem with the right management of the OS.

For what it's worth my savegames are also empty. I can't really tell why though, I tried installing a completely clean install on another computer and saving worked there without problems. Then I tried to copy the exact folders to my main PC after wiping it from all traces of a former installation that I could find and ran it first without and then with steam, but saving still freezes the game.

Are all of these converted from CK2?

If they are and the original save from CK2 can not load then it might be an issue with the original CK2 save which carries over to EUIV.
