(This banner is made by the original 1964 team)

This is an attempt to convert Commander Feuersturm's Arsenal of Democracy mod into the Darkest Hour. As for whether I have the permission or not: I apologise, for I don't have the green light from Firestorm. His last activity was from July, but I have already sent a PM. Hopefully, we get something. Of course, I will shut down this project if he gave the thumbs down.

UPDATE 11/01/2013: Firestorm gave us the permission to proceed. Yes!

The setting of this mod is the aftermath of the Democracy's Last Legs AAR where Germany won WW2 after a brutal 14-years war with the Allies. The nuclear salvos during the later part of the war have caused immense damage to both sides. It has removed the relevance of the Nazis in the dictatorship, degraded America into civil war, and has placed Britain into total destruction. Democracy won in the second American civil war, and rallied the remaining co-ideologues into the 'Chicago Pact' against the forces of Fascism and Communism. The Pact proved its worth with its significant victories in the Pacific and in South America. The Soviets were defeated by the Germans, forced into signing the humiliating treaty they called 'the Bitter Peace'. After licking its wounds, the Reds have conquered China, India and other Asian states creating the largest country on Earth under the leadership of Beria. The battle-weary Axis alliance were declared the masters of Europe after the surrender of the British, and the expulsion of the Americans from Spain. In 1953, Hitler was assassinated. The SS' coup to grab the reins of the nation failed, and the Nazis were out of power. The new "post-revolution" technocratic regime now rules, and have created the European Union.

It remained uncertain whether this cataclysmic world would go for the better or for the worse.

(Created by Midge)
Black = Axis + Friends, Blue = Chicago Pact, Red = Soviet Union)

1.03Beta it is then.

I'll put out the files later so you guys can look at the map more closely if you wish. Then, I'll start on the ministers, flags, country names, and techteams.

1.03 beta

The map is based on the AOD mod, which is based on what happened in the AAR. So, my primary concern is to copy the entire thing. So, yeah. Soviet-occupied China and India. The same case on the western German border. But I'll double-check it if it's accurate.

Once we have transferred the whole thing and build our foundation, that's where we can change things.

The Queen fled to Canada. I don't know what happened to the Royal Navy. I'll check the AAR. No idea on the G.i.E.

Sweden joined the Axis, took Norway from the USA. Formed Scandinavia. Swiss also joined the Axis.

Good mod. I played it a few times in AoD, but for some reason every time I tried to load a savegame it crashed.

I notice Hungary only holds a small part of Transylvania. Don't know if that's just a mistake or there's some explanation for it in the storyline. In any case, a Romanian-Hungarian War over Transylvania was very likely in the event of German victory over Russia.

And lol @ imperial Argentina. How many times I've tried to take over South America with Argentina's puny army in AoD...

Unfortunately I have very little modding experience as I've only begun trying my hand at it, so I can't really help. But good luck to those who pick this up.

Wait, are you sure there won't be Mao in that massive, Asia-dominating USSR? The description says only that Soviets steamrolled China and India, without being specified what kind of countries were there (my guess is that India was probably divided among several factions while China was probably dominated by KMT which could stay strongest force in China in such situation).

If I remember right from what I read in original devs' material, they planned to have USSR dominated by post-Stalinian forces at the start (lead by Beria), but when Beria dies, three diffrent factions would be teaming up for leadership: Moderate, hardline and reformist. I don't remember details, but moderates would be Khrushchevites (of course centered around Khrushchev which would be mostly Russians and more moderate Asian communists like Ho Chi Minh), reformists would be lead by Nehru I think, and the most fun choice: The hardliners. Here comes the Mao, Kim Il Sung and Pol Pot. This would influence internal and foreign policy a lot. Moderates would be pretty much like IOTL CW USSR. Reformists would make more isolationist USSR, or on the other hand more pluralistic alliance that would warmly welcome various non-Marxist Left movements (various Pan-Africanists, Arab Socialists...), plus more flexible economic policy (non-Marxist approaches to socialist economy, market elements...). Hardliners would have extremly hawkish foreign policy, enforcing ideological issues on foreign allies also, and internal politics would be strong collectivism, massive utopian economic experiments and never-ending cultural revolution.

This plan sounds good enough... Surely the USSR cabinet would be made up of various nationalities then to keep the peace? like Yugoslavia or Austria-Hungary only more equal....

Of course, Russians would be strongly overhelmed by Asian nationalities, and multinational flavor should be taken into account in every possible cabinet (starting Beria's, moderates, reformists and hardliners). Russians could be in slight advantage at the start due to technological superiority (leftover of old USSR), but eventually Asians would be getting more and more influence.

A changes suggested: Stanislawow and Kamanets Podolski should be part of Germany.

I notice Hungary only holds a small part of Transylvania. Don't know if that's just a mistake or there's some explanation for it in the storyline. In any case, a Romanian-Hungarian War over Transylvania was very likely in the event of German victory over Russia.
Of course Cluj, Bistrita and Muircea Cuic should be part of Hungary. (Oradea is not Transylvania, it's Partium.) I don't think Hungary and Romania would have gone to each other's throat rather a minor cold-war between the two and later a mass population exchange between the two and finalisation of the borders. If they have gone to war, I see it possible that Bulgaria joins in aid of Hungary (they still claimed Dobrudja - Constantza in-game) and perhaps Serbia (if the military occupation of Germany has ended) in aid of Romania (claims both on Hungary and Bulgaria). I see the two alliances fairly balanced and the war most likely ending in a draw with perhaps Germany coming in the picture demanding peace and the enemies sitting down to the table.

Tetevo should be part of Italy. Mostar, Knin and Karlovac should be part of Croatia. Principlolje and Cetinje should be part of the Italian puppet Montenegro.

In Western Europe perhaps the Maas river should be the border between Netherlands (or Reichskomassariat Nederlanden), Belgium (or Reichskomassariat Belgien), France and Germany on the other side. Also Lille, Dunkirk, Calais and Ameins should be part of Belgium. Nice should be part of Italy. Galicia should be still part of Spain.

In the Middle East, Turkey should annex the whole of Syria-Lebanon and Italy should get Tunisia as well.

Surely some people in all of the parties would be in favour of granting some independence back with the moderates preferring medium sized states (Like Manchuria and Indochina) being independent while the Reformists would go for larger puppets(India, North/South China Expanded Indochina (inc Thailand/Malay/Burma) and the hardliners smaller easily controlled puppets (Korea, Indian States, Chinese warlords)?

of Course China would depend on what voice Mao had, i also see a Sino-Soviet split easily happening regardless of China's independence or not.

Thanks for reminding me this. This is an issue that I would like to address. It is a mistake. An intentional one. Simply because I don't know how to bloody write the Romanian-Hungarian border.

Here's Hungary+Romania from AOD:

i feel it's close enough, because DH map is very different from HOI2
so this is a mod based on an AAR?
or was the AAR made on a mod? and this mod is based on the old AOG?

What I see is that Hungary annexed Slovakia, perhaps in a 3rd Vienna Diktat after the war as an award from Germany for taking part in the war? If that's the case then Petrovgrad in Serbia should also be Hungarian, since that land was occupied by Germany and it was very likely that Hungary would get it back after the military occupation of Serbia ends. If there was no 3rd Vienna Diktat, then Bratislava, Zilina, Banska Bystrica and Presov should be Slovakia - a satellite of Germany - and they should have only claims (not cores) on Komarno, Kosice, Chust and Uzgorod.

As for Transylvania and Partium (the lands awarded to Romania after WW1), Oradea, Cluj, Bistritia and Muircea Ciuc should be in Hungarian hands and claims on the south as it is now. You should also exchange the Romanian cores on the former 4 provinces to claims.

Hungary should lose her claim on Eisenstadt, which is now part of Germany and should get cores on all the provinces she owns (Slovakia - if not a German puppet -, Chust, Petrovgrad - if 3rd Vienna Diktat happened -, Cluj and Bistritia).

Stanislawow and Kamanets-Podolsky should be part of Germany.

This I agree with.

This, not so much. Except maybe Miercurea Ciuc, the others should remain cores.

Only if Miercurea Ciuc remains Romanian core as well, otherwise the demographics disagree with you.

Stanislawow and Kamanets-Podolsky should be part of Germany.
Here I agree with you again.

Yeah, basicly you are right but it's not that simple. A population exchange should take place between Romania and Hungary either with a war or without it. If there was a war and ended with a draw then Germany will demand it. If there was no war at all, then it was it should have been some sort of agreement ending the minor cold war between the two states. It should be something like that took place between Hungary and Czechoslovakia place IRL, a 1:1 exchange which would result in a very small Hungarian minority (only few thousand) in the south and bit larger but still unsubstential Romanian minority in the north (around 5-10% of the total population). Later on there could be an event around ('66-'67) ending the exchange-agreement and losing the claims on each other. Perhaps even resulting in some sort of friendship agreement, Hungarian coal in exchange for Romanian oil trade agreement.

Just a sidenote, Cluj province was Hungarian majority (especially the town of Cluj-Napoca, Romanians mostly lived in the rural areas) previous to WW2 according the Romanian census in the 30s (not to mention the Hungarian census which "naturally" resulted in an even smaller Romanian minority and only 41% Romanian in Northern Transylvania, but of course most of the censuses made back in the first half of the 20th century were compromised by the state to get better results so none of them is perfectly reliable).

Hungary should get cores (if 3rd Vienna diktat happened) on Slovakia, it is very unlikely that the Slovaks would try to rebel or even to interfere with the Hungarian authorities. After all they are in a were bad position between victorious Germany and Hungary. A mass Hungarization or reeducation (as happened in Ukraine, USSR) should begin but if the Soviets or the Allies ever start to push back the Axis the tensions should rise again in Slovakia, resulting in Hungary immediately losing cores on Banska Bystrica, Presov and Zilina (not on Bratislva thanks to the reeducation of already 20 years).
