Massive. Collossal. Comprehensive. One of your best updates yet! I love being able to see who, where, and what. It paints a very detailed picture of the current state of your forces.

Of course I can't wait to see what is in store in the "Re-organization" of the USA.

I was curious about Afghanistan. Do you utilize them at all? They have (usually) a favourable regime for exploitation by the Japanese, i.e. Facist vs. your facist or NatSoc. Easily allied with, or conquered. Conquered because nobody really wants to stick thier neck out for them. Maybe Sovs because of their sphere of influence. They can be utilized as a land bridge from Xiba and Shangzi, into the Middle East.

'nuff said. Back to it lad.

p.s. I can't wait to see ole' "boom boom" Higashikuni back in action! I always call him that because I like to outfit his army with lots and lots of artillery. Why? I dunno...boom boom just seems to fit.

Lifeless: That's what I'm hoping! As you've seen, it's going to be a while before they go into production, let alone reach the troops. On the ESE point, I ummed and ahhed for a bit before launching the invasion, but in the end figured 70% would be good enough. It's a marvellous feature of footslogging infantry that they can fight effectively with very little supply when compared with motorised units etc. Pretty much every development the IJA has made so far has reinforced the principle of infantry as the key and decisive section of the army.

therev: Thanks! Truth be told I'd like to write a lot more on the personalities and
internal politics of the Imperial forces, but I've resigned myself to going back and editing it in later, once the war's been laid out.

grayghost: Really? Feel free to request a 'translation' of anything which isn't covered in the text. Adding text is easy, it's the pics which are a b*tch!

Since you can't see the screenies, you missed the last update's revelation that 'mobile forces' for Japan currently include: Tankettes, Improved Armoured Cars and Semi-Motorised Cavalry. So there's a lot of research to be caught up on before we have anything worth building!

intruder alert: Great, that's what I was going for... It seemed like the perfect opportunity to fix a full picture of the war in everybody's minds before the battle for america gets underway.

As for Afghanistan, sure I utilise them... their neutrality shields a vast swathe of the tenuous Japanese supply line from potential Soviet attacks. If we brought them into our alliance the Red Army would simply crush their outdated forces and cut of our middle eastern armies. It will be considered if that threat ever recedes...

I love General Higashikuni as a character, and the way your comment demonstrates the little roleplaying aspects that creep into the game. I can't shake the though of the guy as this Darth Vader type, the de facto Shogun.

Simon-1979: Excellent, hope you'll enjoy the IJN overview as much! It may not come for a few days, as I'm off clubbing in Manchester tonight... ;)

Fabulous update! Japan is victorious on all fronts! I am curious to see how far the Empire is able to stretch though...

Good job!

Middelkerke: A valid point, although I should point out that I've not covered the deployment of allied troops yet. You can see some such formations in the Phillipines for example but the complete extent of Manchurian, Chinese and Thai deployment will become clear! They tend not to be assigned to islands, however.
If the garrison of an island does not include at least one IJA division, convoys will not supply them

General Jac: I had a feeling I was taking too long over this :) I'll get back to the real action as soon as I can. But March is not going to be a good monh for updates I'm afraid...

Rensslaer: Thanks! It's nice to see the conquests as an achievement every now and then, after banging on for so long about the problems they cause.

Nehekara: Victory is our manifest destiny! Hopefully we can stretch a bit further yet.

Is the game starting to slow down, or is it still running pretty fast despite the fur ball of action?

Everything is going just fine for the Empire it seems.

...then why do I have this feeling that you've already played ahead to your inevitable doom, and any day now, one of these updates is gona show a "The Soviets DoWed us and Tokyo is red" screen? :eek:o

OOh. I was not aware of this at all. In one game I tried garrisoning the islands with troops from my Chinese puppet and disaster struck as all those units starved to death. And it took me so much time to garrison all of them too :( Oh and I guess it was a shame all those people died.

Now I just garrison the important islands and leave the rest unguarded, but always within range of 6 transports full of marine units :)

Overview 4 - 'Dude, where's my Carrier?'

After the months of escalating conflict in the Pacific the entire battlefleet of the IJN was deployed there. Closest to home was the ring of steel around the island of Guam in the Marianas. Here the battleships of the pre-revolution fleet watched for any attempts to relieve, reinforce or remove the enormous besieged
army there. Many small groups of transports and destroyers had already fallen victim to the massed guns of this aging but serviceable force.

4-a.jpg

The task of preventing this mass of enemy troops getting loose in the China sea was considered so important that a few carriers were assigned to 'backstop' the lumbering battleships. Vice Admiral Ozawa commanded this force while impatiently awaiting the completion of his promised fourth Kido Butai fleet.

4-b.jpg

The Marianas were written off by IGHQ for now as a deadlocked theatre. Preparations for a lengthy siege were now underway and convoys of supply ships were shuttling to and from the nearby islands as base facilities began construction.

4-c.jpg

Meanwhile, on the other side of the Pacific, the offensive arm of the IJN moved into position off the Californian coast. Two Kido Butai fleets had already reached the offshore rally points and were conducting reconnaissance
flights over the nearby coastline. Resistance was surprisingly absent. The only
possible explanation offered by baffled intelligence officers was that american air forces were reportedly based at many overseas locations in allied nations.
Perhaps in their arrogance the enemy had left too few fighters for home defence?

4-f.jpg

Converging on these same rally points from further west in the Pacific were several sizeable transport fleets. Hastily filled with every immediately available
man and gun these ships raced east with their engines flat out and scenes of hectic chaos on the troop decks.

4-e.jpg

4-d.jpg

Finally, the remaining Kido Butai under command of Grand Admiral Nagano himself swept the ocean in the wake of the troopships, alert for any sudden attack. It seemed almost unimaginable to the IJN staff that the convoys could reach the west coast completely unchallenged.

4-h.jpg

There remained a few flotillas and detachments in the western Pacific, ships not ready, not needed or not suitable for the initial invasion.

4-g.jpg

In particular, the last transport run to collect troops from New Zealand was still in progress. This convoy represented a further full army to commit to the Californian beaches but they could not be reached in time for the initial landings.

4-j.jpg

Only one fleet continued to ply the waves of the Indian ocean, performing minor redeployments in the rear of the vast western front army.

4-i-1.jpg

The troops are committed, the transports underway. The carriers are in position. I'll let you cast your votes as to whether you'd like an overview of the allied nations before we get back back to the action. Thanks for reading!
