Did they mention what type of game it will be? I hope they dont talk about M&B.

Cannot be M&B as it is not a PDS title.

Did he at least throw us a bone by saying when exactly it'll be announced?

It was just said that "it will not be announced this year".

This much have been gathered:
====================================================================================================
UPDATED list so far (17.9.2013). "Supersecret" is:
1) Not Rome 2 (LINK)
2) Not Dark Ages (LINK)
3) Not WW1 (LINK)
4) Not Cold war (East vs west in the works)
5) Not Space 4x (LINK)
6) Not HOI4 (LINK)
7) Not a continuation of any current title (HOI, EU, ROME, VIC)
8) Not any period after the cold war (LINK)

NOTE: Nothing in this list is quaranteed fact. Just lowered probability. "Super Secret" could still be Rome 2

If we're opting out continuations then a completely new version of Rome (or simply a game concerning an ancient era), with different mechanics than Europa Universalis might still be a possibility.

====================================================================================================

This is incredibly unlikely but maybe they're going even older with a game taking place at the dawn of Western Civilization.

I love ancient history and that would just be amazing. Especially if they filled in the time in between it and CK2 with converters (I love alternate history almost as much).

If we're opting out continuations then a completely new version of Rome (or simply a game concerning an ancient era), with different mechanics than Europa Universalis might still be a possibility.

That is a more logical thought.

After playing the substandard campaign of TW:Rome 2, I think the doors are open for Paradox to do to the Classical age with a new games what CK2 did to the Medieval period. I mean, TW:Rome 2 doesn't even have family trees. Moreover, I've been playing an Iceni tribe governed by "Elder Chieftains" which goes completely against the monarchistic way in which the Britons ruled.

I know it's not popular with the history grognards, but a fantasy game with their engine would be awesome.

There really is -so- much potential with this. I'd love a CK2 fantasy off-shoot. Sure, there is the GoT mod, but I think Paradox could do a lot more with an entire game based on a fantasy setting. I also think GoT slots almost too well with CK2. I'd want a fantasy setting that feels a lot more fantastic for a game like this.

What do you mean? Releasing "CK2 in a fantasy setting" for the sake of it? Medieval era has its fans and Game of Thrones has its fans also (as well as a few other settings). I am unsure why Paradox should aim at "CK2 fantasy off-shoot". You have to create a world, investing time and money in it. There already is CK2 title and "CK2 in a fantasy setting" (mod). This makes no economical sense to make a game people can have for free, nor releasing the product so closely related to other product so short after the release. Also, what would be this fantasy game aiming at?

The devs have said "no space 4x" but that doesn't actually exclude a space grand strategy that doesn't use the old "empty galaxy, everyone starts with their homeworld" formula but rather a space grand strategy with a galaxy with real history and asymmetric setup.

Actually the devs have stated that they would love to do a space 4x game at some point, but currently there are no such plans.

No, it should be much more than CK2 in a fantasy setting. First of all, it should have a random world creator, so when you start a game it's a new map, you don't know what other realms may lie beyond what you know, it'd be similar to how it was in the middle ages for the player. Also realms would be randomly created, with different races and race-specific units. Quests, big events, doom and destruction! I mean there is sooo much that can be done with this. It wouldn't be "CK2 in a fantasy setting" as that's already done (Game of Thrones).

Fantasy is not ruled out and based on Johans reaction in a interview (sorry, can't make the twitch link work) might not be too far fetched either.

We just have to wait out until next year to know what "supersecret" is about.

Well, the CK2 relation would be in basic mechanics/unit of analysis. If Paradox was making a fantasy game, I'd be disappointed if it was as ho-hum as the GoT mod or any other CK2 mod. I think they could do a lot more than just "CK2 with fantasy in the background," and I agree with you that it would be a waste of resources. There better be monsters, more equipment, maybe RPG style levels, some "questing," magic, and some big bad to deal with. Obviously, I wouldn't want to see them try to fit in mechanics and elements that don't work in the Paradox engine/approach, but I think there's a lot more room there for interesting new ideas than Paradox have been able to explore as of the present. I'm not asking for RPG-style combat or dungeon crawling. I want a Paradox-appropriate addition of RPG-style elements in the context of a CK2-style-single-character-at-a-time grand strategy game. That's where I'm coming from, at least. GoT-the-mod is basically CK2 with a different map. I'd be looking for something related to CK2 but with fundamental differences in mechanics, setting, and tone.

Edit: I missed that Wolfing said some of the stuff I said (though we have our differences). I'm just tipping my hat to him here, *tip.
