The build up started at 36. It isnt very fun sitting around and doing nothing..

Lies!!!!, 36 is a good time to plan your evil empire and prepare to take on the whole world at once.

Although a 33 would be very nice.

I agree that it can be fun sitting and plotting and double-guessing yourself until the balloon goes up... That said, the 38 scenario should be a good balance for MP. If it isn't, it'll be a good starting point for re-balancing it. The potential of a Sealion, without an ahistoric SU/US conquest of the world in 1936.

As to a '33 scenario, maybe, but I'd think it'd be more of a mod. Extended tech tree, or else everybody'll have their own mad rush strategy. Don't have the RA on this machine, but air cav in '42? ASM CAS in '39? Barbarossa opening with a barrage of nukes, in spring '42?

Without having done the math I think the historic years will put a sock in the development. Perhaps you could research a year or so before time, but not by much more I think.

But you are right. A '33 would be better of in the hands of a modder than Paradox. It would take a revision of everything: units, tech tree, industrial model, ressources, not to mention the events

I can see it now:

Player picks Germany, 1933.

You sit down, adjust your country. Let some time pass:

Event pops up:

Adolf Hitler failed to become Chancellor. -end game-

Yeaaaaaa!

And won't it be great sitting on the tail end of the Great Depression for another two years? That was sarcasm. As far as WWII goes, and HoI as a series, the years of 1934 and '35 are useless unless you 'somehow' need more time to craft your perfect country. Its really not needed.

Since we already have HOI version 2 switching to version 1.2 seems very strange, why would anyone want to go backwards.

Please could Paradox name their patches correctly, it should be called version 2.2, not 1.2

versions 1.02 (and 1.06) have existed for quite a long time, if Paradox issues new patches with the same names as old ones, it will get even more confusing

HoI2 is not HoI 2.0. It's a new game. Massive differences in UI, research, air combat, and naval combat. The definitive HoI is 1.06c, the final version of Master of Orion 2 was 1.3, and Civ3 wasn't a patch on Civ2. New product -> starts at 1.0. It's not WordPerfect.

Besides, starting in 1933 would require treaty types that aren't currently in the game and would need to be added in a patch - the London Treaty of 1930 and the Anglo-German Naval Declaration of 1934 limit the amount of ships various large powers can build. In particular, the London Treaty is active until the end of 1936 and doesn't let anyone build much more in the way of large warships. (Ever wondered why Britain built four battleships a year until WW1 and then built next no more until 1936...?) Can't have Germany pumping out battleships in 1934, the British would explode since only their Nelsons would even come close.

If juene ecole actually worked in this game, I'd appreciate the chance to try this out. (Needs Flash, but is THE reason to download that bloated piece of junk.)

(Rereading that Alt-Naval Japan page makes me want to play a battleship combat simulator. Any good ones around? Haven't seen one since DOS days.)

I say the GC should start in 1921.

(because the german build-up began with the Weimar Republic, which sent a tank corps to be trained in the USSR, and the social democrats commissoned the first post-war bombers, which were disguised as commercial airliners, blah blah blah)

AND give Victoria an add-on, so that we can link both games :)

Yes, hurrah! This is no doubt a great idea. Make it even better and make the archive function work or post the newsletter on the forum so that I don't have to check my junk e-mail account every time there's a new one out.

I work in the software industry. I feel for the the developers at Paradox. I wish I had a nickel for every time marketing and sales promised something to a customer without letting development know about it -- I would be a rich man.

We'll all get the much anticipated patch when it comes out -- not when it is ready, or almost ready, or Gold, or Beta+ or Gamma or whatever you want to call it. We get it when it is posted for download.

Relax. You all know once the patch is out you will lock yourself in your basement and play 24/7 until you fall face first into the keyboard. So, for now, go outside and get some sun. Play with your kids (or your parents as the case may be). Enjoy life. No one is getting out of this life alive in any case. :)

Regards,
Feltan

Pssst...dude...it's HOI 2, not HOI version 2. Completely different game, man.

It's version 1.2 of HOI 2.

Second'd.
I'd love a "SandBox" Scenario. I realize you can Download the no time limit mod, but I also know that then there are no events after such and such a date. But just something you could muck around with on your spare time.

Other than that, no Biggie about the mistake. Chances are most of them went, "PATCH!!!!" and forgot all about where they heard it from. Kind of like telling a man in the desert about water "Just over the next ridge"
