Newbie question

I've been following along with Ironhead 5's excellent walkthrough AAR (http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=378841) ... and finding it an excellent introduction to the game.

However, in the past week (gametime) something weird has started happening. I'm taking a 30% production hit from resources ... this despite having big stockpiles:

Can anyone help me understand what is going on? Is it my energy? That is the only one in red ... but I have over 500 stockpiled ...

So what was going on? I'm guessing you need positive energy flow to keep industry humming along ... not just a stockpile. Is that right?

If so, what is the stockpile for?

No that's not right, stockpile is all that matters. But I think the trade deals are computed before the available resources are checked, so the comp estimates that you'll be out of energy and thus cuts production, even though the deals won't be executed... :wacko:

You do NOT have "big stockpiles". In fact, your Energy is already low enough to shut down some of your factories. "Big stockpiles" would be hundreds of thousands of units... not hundreds of units.

You would normally have 170 ICs (if we ignore the resource shortage). That requires 340 Energy per day, just to feed the factories. Your current stockpile is only 555 (even with some of your Industries shut down!), with some more being shipped out for trade.

If you have to, start trading Supplies for Energy... or just cancel some of the bigger Energy trades.
