Back to Navarre ...
The Navarreans had been arrogant enough to reject my hand of my lovely daughter. (Well, perhaps she has a squint, a foul temper and likes to play with knives. But that's not the point!)
They'd done this, repeatedly, for 15 years. Enough was enough, and it was time they were taught a lesson in humility.
I, Ferdinand, believe that the punishment for a crime should preclude the possibility of a second offense. (Thanks to the Ankh-Morpork Thieves Guild for inspiring this beneficient approach.)
We noticed that Navarre had a strong military alliance - with Russia. We gambled that even if Russia honoured it, they'd not reach Iberia in time to influence the battle, and we prepared our might...
El Grand Capitan invaded with a force of 40 cannon, 6k cavalry and about 20k of infantry. This turned out to be excessive ... the remnants of their army ran like whipped dogs.
However, we were prepared for this treachery. Both provinces with Refineries had 10k standing armies. But the Navarreans had military intelligence! They went to Aragon, instead.
Bad move. Their intelligence failed to warn them about the 12k of cavalry awaiting there, under the guidance of Leader Whats-His-Name. The results were predictable. The surviving 11 soldiers fled back to Navarre, clearly having forgotten the besieging army there...
It wasn't possible to kill those 11 soldiers, though. They kept fleeing before being hurt. How should I have handled that?
In the end, they became mine when I annexed Navarre.
Strangely, when they became my army, they were suddenly changed into 5 cannon. Is that common? (Not that I minded the upgrade!)
This is my first annexation. The message about "All of Europe won't like it" ... I take it that this is the BadBoy points I've seen mentioned on here elsewhere - correct? (Europe might not have liked it, but they didn't -say- anything about it...)
