The Russian Czar surveys his domain, at last the Rus people have united and thrown off the yoke of the hated mongols and the teaching of their false 'prophet'.
But times are challenging, Poland and Lithuania have combined creating a powerful nation to the south - however the El Freako family (long the advisors of the Partiarch and Duke of Muscovy) is not unduly worried - there the AI family advises the Polish King and they are not known for their intelligence.
A strong family has come to prominance in Sweden, but these are our cousins - descended as they are from our common Viking ancestors.
Whilst they have not suffered under the yoke of the mongols like us (and do not see the folly of such things as 'consulting the people' that led to the fall of Kievian Rus) they are rising in power and sure to either throw off their Danish overlords or supplant them as the Primary power in the Kalmar union.
The different experience of the Rus people, however, means that they will be consindered our cousins not brothers (as they follow the heretic Rome and never suffered as we did under a conquorers boot), still they are christians and descendents of Eric the Red.
A powerful new family has risen to prominance in europe: the Hapsburgs.
They control the recently unified Spain and the Empire as well. Such a grouping challenges the balance of power in Europe but Russia can do little and cares even less.
What the Russian people desire most of all is to free our brethren who still labour under the mongol yoke, and to extract a measure of vengence on those heretic barbarians.
We also mourn for the loss of the great city of Constantine but the present Sultan seems to be a reasonably tolerant one - maybe we can come to an understanding, however unpleasant it is to deal with the infidel Turk we must respect their power.
