I think i got an explorer, it said so and so is waiting for your orders in "province name". How do i put him in charge of a unit so i can do some exploring and colonization?

For countries like native indian countries, how do i take unclaimed land with them???

Thanks

Unclaimed Land

You can't just "take" unclaimed land; you have to settle it. To settle a province, you have to click on the colonization icon, then click on the province, and either place a trading post or a colony (it will tell you your approximate odds of success).

You should play through the whole tutorial if you haven't, the game is much easier if you do.

Click on the blue ship on the side of the menu bar (If it's grey, then you can't claim any territory this way). Find the place you want to claim, click on it, then send either a colonist or a trader (trader is cheaper, but you get less from it). There are some limitations, however:

1. Traders can only be sent after trade tech level 2.
2. Colonists can only be sent if the province borders the ocean or a city with a population over 700 owned by you.
3. You can only send traders to a province bordering the ocean or one of your provinces.
4. You cannot send a trader or colonist to a province that somebody else is sending one to.

Explorers have a limited life-span, but if you are managing them well you should get more than two sea zones out of them. When they die, they are replaced by normal sailors.

Don't forget to regularly bring your ships back to port, too. Attrition can be very high at the lower naval tech levels.
