I couldn't quite find the answer to this, and I don't want to screw up a nice Ironman game I've got going. Apologies if this is answered elsewhere.

I'm going for First Come First Serve (and have my capital in the New World) and have most of North America colonized. To the south, Portugal has a huge colonial empire, nearly filling up the entire continent...but Portugal itself only requires 95% War Score for full annexation.

So I'm curious, what happens if I fully annex Portugal?

--Will the CNs they have break free?
--Will I gain the all of the CNs provinces directly as though I annexed them?
--Will the CNs become my vassals?

Thanks in adavnce!

Can you get the achievement if you own CN's in the Americas or do you need to own all provinces yourself? Quite important to know otherwise there's no use in full annexing Portugal.
This would be my concern as well. I'm under the impression that all provinces must be owned directly by the player.

Maybe “concede colonial region” would be a safer play in the peace deal? Afaik this just transfers provinces to you (which usually get re-transfered to your CN)

Hey everyone! I did a test run with the console, as suggested, and found out that the Colonial Nations transfer to me, but they stay as CNs (that is, they are my subjects, I don't get their provinces).

Which you don't want, you need to actually own all the provinces and there’s no way to directly take them from your own colonial nations. Better to just take them in a peace deal directly, they're incredibly cheap and you can take vast swathes of land at once.

Greatly weakening Portugal so they are no longer a threat and possibly have their colonial nations break free might still be a good idea depending on your situation, however.

Good luck with the run, that was one of my favorite achievements. :)

Hello,

You will have the colonial nation and you don't want that for the achievment as you need to be the direct owner of all the provinces. The problem is you can't either diplo-annex or declare war to your CN.
In my run, I managed the following solution: increase their liberty desire a lot, wait for my rival to support their independance, lose the independance war they declared and full annex them later :)

Concede colonial region is a really good value peace option.

Note that if you do end up with CNs as a new world nation you can always release them and then DoW and annex them later on.

The best thing about it is that it can be used for provinces your colony isn't able to core (yet) and has 0 diplo cost even when used on co-belligerents.

When i did my First Come, First Serve run, CNs would dissolve if they either:
A. Were located on the same continent (north america, south america, australia).
B. Had a contigous land connection to your capital.
Several people had problems with the achievement when it was released, due to placing their capital in the caribbeans.

That actually makes sense, I think I've seen this information around earlier.
