New Type of Save Game File?

My Sengoku saves say they are SGU file types. What program opens them?

Wouldn't just copying the save file and opening the copy prevent any risk of corruption?

Well, it wouldn't prevent the risk of corruption, but it would still leave you with a working, original copy that you could use
