Hello All,

I've just recently picked up Planetfall and I've really been enjoying it!

Something I'm not understanding is what to prioritize when researching, especially the military research.

In societal research I'm normally get the colonizer, whatever sector research I've made my first sector, and then going for cosmite or the first of the operations.

For military I'm usually at a loss what to get next. I rush the regeneration for the kir'ko because that seems strong or getting the rail accelerators for the vanguard because the +1 range is useful, but I don't know what to get after that.

I would appreciate any advice on the subject!

Hello,

I believe there are no standard paths in military research, it depends on race/secret tech/opponents/map size/surrounding/your preferences. Usually it is a good idea to research first secret tech mod (their first mod is very cost efficient), then first race mod, then one of weapon mods. But again it depends on many factors, for instance Dvar want to get their race mod first, Firearms races may want to get first weapon tech for tactical operation. After that you can do whatever (go for tier 3 race units or go for tier 3 secret tech units or go for high level tactical operations etc.)

One way or the other everything is useful. Mods and units, i think, are preferable to operations. Secret tech and faction tech could be useful or not depending on what units you use, ST of FT. Economy is tricky, cover operations are useful if you got someone to use them, but not researching them could drag you behind. Doctrines slots are always welcome. Economy is always useful, energy for maintening armies and operation, food for cities, production for armies and then research to get everything else :)

All in all,i don't think there is so much as priorities. Some things are more useful than other but i prefer to get two tech than waiting for a more useful but costly and advanced :)

It's good that research starts at turn 2 so you can send your scounts out a bit. Going heavy in psionic tree might be a bad idea if you got lots of robots to smash. I would still recommend some decent damage mod or healing mod and then damage or healing combat operation. Just to start those empire quests rolling :)
