New to HOI2, what should I get

I'll hopefully get my HOI-Anthology in the mail today so I can start playing during the weekend. I'm completely in the dark as to what the different add-ons are for HOI2 and I thought I'd get the quickest answer by posting here.

So what is the recommended setup these days? Armageddon with 1.2 is the best one? Or Doomsday with 1.3a? Or some version of CORE?

After playing Armageddon v1.2, I can't imagine going back to any other version of the game.

Of course... having been included in the v1.2 Beta-test team might have affected my opinion of it...

Right-o. I thought as much, but the setup for Paradox games always gets quite complicated 3 years post release so I needed some verification.

Are there any "necessary" (or useful) mods or add-ons that I should download as well?

One caveat about the v1.2 patch is that... while it fixed a huge number of bugs... it did introduce one new one: Paradrop modifiers are now screwed up. There is a user-made fix already available for that problem, though... and with the public release of the game's source-code, a permanent fix should be forthcoming from the bug-fixing team.

Mod-34 is my favorite mod. Check the AAR in my signature.

If I apply the user made patch and not the mod, will it still be possible to apply any future official patches from Paradox?
