My copy of Deus Vult arrived on Saturday :) and I installed and began playing. I have already completed my first game. I started in 1066 as the Duke of Galloway and it was game over in 1076 when my liege annexed my Duchy. I’m on my second game now and doing quite well, as the Duke of Aquitaine I am possibly the most powerful man in the Kingdom of France bar the King himself.

Anyway – questions, questions….

1. What does Stability do? I can’t find how it influences my game.

2. Badboy. Do I incur badboy for dowing a religious enemy or taking lands and titles from a religious enemy?

3. Fosterlings. Is this anything other than an opportunity for the child to forge friendships in a foreign court?

4. Sieges, my Duke and my Liege. I am the Duke of Aquitaine and my liege is the King of France. My vassal dows the King and I in turn dow my vassal. I besiege my vassal and on completion the province automatically reverts to the ownership of the King. I didn’t think this was correct. Shouldn’t the province be controlled by me? I decided to reload and repeat the exercise to see what happens - this time the land is controlled by my Duke allowing me to sue for peace and claim the title and land for myself. In both cases the siege was lead by my Duke and without the presence of any of the King’s regiments. Why did I get a different result the second time?

5. Did I read somewhere that the armies of those who have a different religion can't march through my provinces anymore (unless at war)? I often see muslim armies trespassing on my property on their way to and from various destinations.

6. An annoying truce I found a single demesne muslim ruler with no allies just crying out to be relieved of his land and title. I parked my Duke's regiment on the border of the sheikdom of Nowheresville and declared war. I began the march across the border.

But before I made it across the border I suddenly found myself at peace. And checking the action screen I now have a truce with this lucky, lucky Emir. I'm guessing my Leige, the King, must have declared too and then immediatley sued for peace. Now, even though I didn't conclude a peace deal - do I have to wait until either the lucky Emir of the King of France die to be able to dow again without the prestige loss?

1. It gives you events. Negative stability gives bad events (revolts, rebellions and so on), positive stability give good events (you can gain extra tax).

2. You don't get BB for DOW'ing religious enemies, you do for taking their lands and titles.

3. It can influence their traits and they can gain prestige I believe.

4. Most likely your king was quicker in making peace then you. As soon as you have won a siege pause the game and sue for peace, else another ruler who is also at war with that former vassal will make peace and get the land.

5. Make sure you have installed the latest betapatch of october 15.

6. I think yes, you will suffer the prestige loss, but you can check yourself. Select the option to DOW him and before you hit the confirm button read the text just above it.

3. It is also a good way to rid your court of courtiers, as too many will cause disease to run through the court. This is ofcourse only a temporary solution for a few years until the kids return home.

I also have many rivalries between siblings and family members when they stay in my court during upbringing. So I often send them out, so I don't end up with a family that hates each other's guts.

6. Lieges suck, suck and then suck some more. They will often grab peace deals that is NO favour to you, even if you did all the work. I guess they don't want you to become too powerful ;)

Do as Veld said ... do rapid wars of aggression and settle peace as soon as possible (don't be greedy) so you don't end up controlling 90% of the opposition's terriroty and then having your King settle peace for 1 gold. Grab one province at a time.

3. Fosterlings improves relations. Also you may get lucky and have your fosterling son inherit a realm which has elective-law but no vassals (courtier with strongest MIL rating inherits, or something like that).

While we're at it...
How do you demobilize armies?

Select the army/regiment and click on the 'disband' button, on the left side of the screen.

Remember to only disband armies within your own realm, else you will lose almost all your manpower.

I found this out to my sadness when I disbanded in the Holy Land after a Crusade and ended up with nobody to defend the homeland in an attack from a rival.
