Spain report:

Teched trade 9, 10, and infra 9

built several colonies

conquered several provs off muslim and pagan countries, converted about 1/3 of them

increased monthly income by 300D

did a major upgrade on forts throughout the country. average fort level should be around 2.5-3 now.

built 10 CCs.


Didn't fight any wars. Would've grabbed a Chinese cot, but apparently dow'd too early and was forced to wp them. Would've got the Mascat cot, but NL stole it from under my nose after I took all their other provs.

I fought ONE war with the English, NONE with the Netherlands.... even though THEY snatched a CoT my sub was working on getting (which was, I would say, pretty obvious at that time)

The "Germans", I would say, have behaved rather erratically towards Spain, whereas France has, as yet, behaved honourably towards me... Then I'm ofcourse not going to intentionally steer towards clashing with the French, to aid the Germans, who have, thus far, made remarkable gains despite being "gangbanged".

And unlike the French, Germans, English (pretty much everyone, actually) I don't HAVE a leaderfile.....and only now, with a great many CC's built (though, if I'm reading the stats correctly, LESS CC's than Prussia has..) I have something resembling a reasonable MP replenishment rate.. Yeah, sure, I should attack the French at every turn to get myself killed, and leave the Germans to pick up the spoils...

"they will know what to do"... And why would that involve the Iberians, particularly in the case of the Netherlands?

I'm sure Dutch funds would be better spent funding the "poor weak and underdevoleped"(tm barnius) Germans, than rebuilding large numbers of warships...

Even before that, actually, the Germans somewhat had the habit of others taking the brunt of the fighting and losses, and expecting an unending flow of gold their way.

Well, i have nothing to tell about that, as to repeat other, who called Spanish position coward.
I told that for other game, but Spain befriending France is same misery role as usually Portugal.
But for Portugal it is natural role, because low number of Iberia provinces. When Spain cut their role to this, that is just misery.

I took over Spain ca. 1600, right after what should have been their golden age.... Yet inflation was rampant, and 3 nations were richer than Spain, and another 2 were fairly close behind.. All in all a pretty shitty position. Now, atleast, people are again TALKING about Spain, considering her position in the wars of europe

You messed up the reason and the result.

I signed a few NAPs with France, yes... Then again, what is there to fight for, besides German gains and French animosity?
I've had my share of senseless fighting against France in the 17th century (I doubt there would've been a Venice if it weren't for Spanish and Portuguese troops)

But, of course, if you prefer the role of Portugal, that is good for you. Then you can go hunt with fleet for those, who you surely win.

If I'd wanted a sure win, I would've joined against the "poor sub".

You mess up the reason and the result too. Iberians never (at my memory) intended to give help to Germans, opposite they stimulate you to search for conflict there. Just compare my Portugal in C&C3, who funds land nations for 1492-1619 much more than current Iberians pair.

Iberians are trying to tell they are victims and forced to fund Nappy and looking for reasons why they want to be non-risky guys. That is their right, i have nothing against, but that is not Germans fault. And Iberians shouldn`t ask why NL is not their friends then.

Oh sure, now we're enemies of NL because we didn't fund the Germans as much as the Dutch did :rofl:

...Especially funny considering it was mostly subs you managed to convince to fund you Relations with Eskimo, as far as I am concerned, were fairly good.


Finally, try and give me one reason (besides "they're France") why I should fight France.

Nah, you were just sure single Portugal is enough. But when Fried II appeared at island and Blucher headed Iberia, Spanish intervention wouldn`t change anything.

Blucher wouldn't have returned from Spain, you can be sure of that. (or perhaps, if he was lucky, he would have returned with a couple thousand men, being laughed at all the way through France )

Forza, i vassalized Spain by Prussia once via France MA vs decent player. I have no reasons to think it wouldn`t be repeated.

I dunno... if those troops marching through Spain were supposed to arrange that vasalisation... there were plenty of Spaniards waiting for them. It was not a very impressive force, really

Agreed, we let you down. I'm not sure if you are posting this to mention a technicality or to actually accuse us for it. In case of the latter, a couple of points:

Tonio was the one who brought it up as "German generosity and Spanish treachery", or somesuch .... So a technicality that kinda spoils his propaganda

Later on there were plenty of chances to get back at France, with the Germans more than happy to help (and also, wow, being able to help).

I think it can be claimed that Spain-Portugal-Venice made here a sacrifice, losing a CoT or so in the process of allowing Germany to unite. An acceptable prize.

I suspect that depends very much on the point of view.. Though a disunited Germany, fighting among themselves, would quite possibly have led more Frenchies down south..

But later on they failed to follow up on that success and make France their bitch, which was entirely within reach.

There were times this was certainly possible... but that was mostly in the last 50 years or so, to my estimation... (critical character flaw: I dislike annexing player nations )

Not capitalizing on this success is a choice made purely by the Iberians, and, well. Spain has done economically wonderfully while there is no Glory and Prestige to write home about.

taking an economical wreck at the end of Spain's "golden age", and transforming it into an economic powerhouse, while not the sort of glory most people seek, is, to me, a satisfying achievement, actually
Especially since I consider(should be considered, I guess ) myself a sub-par trader..
