i forgot if Duna has 3 or 6 books. Probably 6. I slept and abandom the second book, though i almost never do that with books.

Btw, i read Tolkien only this year, because i never met his books before. In fact i found out this genre only at 2002 by Perumov books, which one i like rather much. I believe he has his books at english and other different languagues, the site is perumov.com . He has trilogy of continuing Tolkien world (imho, quite successful), and a lot of other books, most of them links are series and links each other. Very interesting reading. Light style, though not easy if you want to understand all links, at least all detectives are primitive after that :D

Can anyone tell me what the names are of the book(s) I should read and not read?

Dune
Messiah of Dune

Both of them are very good imo. Continue the read after if you like it. And Tonio, i think those books have a global view in it, but to each his own.

------------------

And Tonio, you like fantasy? If you like Tolkien, try books by Guy Gavriel Kay. Very good and well written. Besides his fantasy trilogy (Fionavar Tapestry), he wrote books inspired by historical settings and which have some magical aspect (not always). "Lions of al-Rassan" is in the Moor's Spain, one of his best. "Last light of the sun" is in England around 850 A.D.. There is also "Sail to Sarantium" which is about Byzantium in the time of Justinien, juts before the wars that decimated Italy in the 6th century (population decreased by about 50% in 20 yrs). There are a couple others that are also good. Kay is one of the best after Tolkien (imo) in terms of fantasy story.

Happy reading. :)

They do get a little mediocre after the first 2...
Still, Dune and Dune Mesiah are great reads, mystical in a very authentic way. You can say that Herbert created a whole new Universe in his books, like the god of Science Fiction that he is. You can also say, that "Dschihad" has a whole new meaning, once you´ve read the said novels.
I for one was absolutely fascinated by the characters and the inter-characterial dynamics. I mean....in which other books does somebody rise to the rank of advanced God (more or less) and ultimately let´s himself get blasted by an atombomb out of the frustration of his own creation? Weird, far out and more than delicious...

Well I believe that there is deep and spiritual wisdom in ultimately crazed bingedrinking. Imho, only out of the comatic depths of a totaly dehumanized environment can a messiah one day arise. Only through wildy going beyond Ultima Ratio can we achieve what is the essence of the Groove : The Will to be weird, the capability of bizarre Egotheism.

Or putting it bluntly:

I´d rather have a bottle in front of me than have to have a Frontolobotomy!

I do agree  (with most of it, but not all : I don't believe in a Messiah).

I take up the gauntlet under two conditions:
  • The games must be NON-RP games
  • The rule must be explicitly present

If you manage to convince me the majority of the NON-RP games ban map trading by the AI, I will send you 1,000 ducats worth of state gifts in game.
If not, I expect you to return the favour.

I know almost all RP-games forbid map trading by the AI, but that's because those games try to be historical correct.

I have looked through all MP games that can be found in the MP forum (after the “service” or what we should call it, that was made on this site a few days ago, we only get two pages, material from four weeks back). I have sorted all of these gam I could find on these pages and that actually was played in 6 categories

1. For your convenience FAL I include the names of the games I consider to be RP game (normally because the GM himself says they are, I have not made an extensive reading of all text, thus some of the games I consider non-RP may in fact be RP)

2. Those I cannot find rules for (they may in reality be one of your candidates in the bet, i.e. perhaps they had no rules at all)

3. Those games that use a stupido generalised rule like “No exploits allowed” or similar. Thus we do not know what it is they allow or forbid. IMO they should not be part of the bet as some of them probably would go one way and some the other if we asked the GM, but you demand them as your candidates when you stated your conditions; anyway I will separate them in my presentation.

4. Those who partially fordbid it, partly allow it (I generously offer to treat them as neutral in our bet)

5. Those who allow map trading with the AI (your clear candidates)

6. Those who forbid map trading with the AI, unconditionally (my clear candidates)

RP GAMES
1. Kingdom Stage
2. Friday Night NA Game VI (RP is "encouraged")

NO RULES FOUND
1. War IV. Actually I cannot find any rules at all in post 1 – the rules are probably “hidden” somewhere else, in the game thread or in the rules for War 3 or whatever

UNCLEAR RULE
1. Old world. "Exploits are banned (including farming the AI for cash)"
2. Rush of Titans. “Immoral behaviours … will be considered by GM after session with edits”. As I played in this game from around IIRC 1580 I can vouch that actually no one knew what was allowed or not, not even the GM, it was the most anarchy game I have ever played in

PATIALLY FORBIDDEN
1. Battlefront III. "No map trading till the year 1650"
2. The time machine. "No maptrading with AI until 1700"

------------

And now over to the clear candidates in the bet.

ALLOWING MAP TRADING
1. Thursday game
2. Finding Neverland... [What a surprise :p ]

Ah FAL, you have 2 games. How many do I have?

UNCONDITIONALLY FORBIDDING
1. Americans take Europe 2: "No maptrading with AI. Is allowed between humans from 1600."
2. Conflicts and Converts. "No maptrading with the AI ever"
3. Tuesday night game. "Trading maps with AI is forbidden."
4. Imperial Europe: renaissance. "Map trading with AI forbidden."
5. Chill 3. "All maptrading allowed with humans, but not with AI."
6. Thirst for Glory. "No map trading with AI"
7. Chill 2. " All maptrading allowed with humans, but not with AI."
8. Dire Straits 2. "2) No map-trading until 1650, and never with the AI"

----------

Now you may want to count the "Unclear Rules" as yours. Well if you insist you can, that makes it 8 to 4 for me. And if we add War IV we get 8 to 5. Even if we added the "partially forbidden" as yours it would be 8 to 7.

-----------

I am so looking forward to the state gifts comprising 1000d on Sunday FAL. I will try to use it in a way that benefits our alliance rather than only myself, thus soothing your feelings :p

PS My friends never makes bets with me - unless they are 100% sure

Daniel, I was trying to make clear that your statistical survey was quite boring as well :D No offence, but I really don't care which game has a non-map-tradingrule and which does ;)

Ozzeh, it is not the statistical survey initself that is the main thing. It is that one player, because he lost a bet of something outside the game, will have to send 1000d in state gifts to another one in the game. :D

You must be hard to satisfy. :( I think it is quite exciting. :) Perhaps I should send you 100d of the 1000d to enliven you :p

Not so fast, my dear Daniel.

"There are three types of lies - lies, damn lies, and statistics."

I did a survey myself too :D
I did look to games older than 4 weeks. (To do this, you need to set the 'display' options at the bottom of the forum to 'from the beginning').

I have four categories:
  • RP GAMES
  • DOES NOT EXPLICITLY DISALLOW MAP TRADING WITH AI
  • EXPLICITLY DISALLOWS MAP TRADING WITH AI
  • PATIALLY FORBIDDEN / PARTIALLY ALLOWED

All games that were RP ended up in the first category.
Games that did not mention map trading and AI together at the first page of the game thread, ended up in the second category.
Games that said that map trading with the AI was forbidden, ended up in the third category.
Finally, if the first page of the thread mentioned map trading forbidden 'till xxxx' it ended up in the last category.

Of course I did not read the whole thread of all games, but only scanned the first page (with 25 posts). It is possible a map trading rule was added later in the thread, but that's a risk I take.
I did exclude Nappy games and other games with a very late start, since map trading is then pointless, though technically those should end up in 'my' category too.

Finally, I only included games mentioned in the first 20 pages of the multiplayer subforum. There are 95 in total, so if you want to include all multiplayer games, be my guest :D

Now, my results:

RP GAMES
  1. Kingdom Stage
  2. Friday Night NA Game VI

  5. ToH2: The Olympian Rebirth
